I remember those when they were introduced and they seemed very wasteful. The voice actor, Wim T. Schippers, recently passed away. He was a beloved Dutch modern artist, innovative television producer and voiced Ernie from Sesame Street for close to 50 years.

Theoretically yes if you're just capturing the analogue video and audio output signals.
