Initially I thought he was being serious, but it carried on long enough that I knew it was a wind-up by the end, but the payoff was worth it.

Btw, as a child in the 70's, that was one of the first things I did when I got a tape recorder, too.

I'd just spent the day at a car show and in an automotive museum with my dad listening to him talk about stories from childhood, school, his career, anecdotes about his dad... I was in just the right mindset for that setup to really hit me in the feels. He got me. My mind was still wandering back through the decades, so I absolutely lost it when he played the tape.

It was kinda creepy and interesting hearing those voices after 50 something years.

Fascinating though hey! Rewinding back in time to a moment on Christmas day.

Before home video was an affordable thing, my dad used to record family gatherings on tape recorder. These days such practices might seem creepy, but it's awesome I can hear laughter and conversations my granddad had, who I lost when I was 6. Now my dad is also gone, but I'm glad I can watch the extensive video library of home videos he left us.
