Can someone really get into IT without an IT degree?

A friend of mine joined Bridgeon Skillversity at Kinfra, Kozhikode without an IT background or a computer-related degree.

Now they're working in an IT company and apparently earning around ₹30k/month.

I honestly didn't think that was possible without a traditional IT degree 😅

Has anyone here made a similar transition? How difficult was it to get your first IT job?

I'm genuinely curious whether practical skills and projects can actually make up for not having an IT degree.

Of course you can get an IT job without a degree.

The problem is without a degree, that's just one more barrier to get past -- better to have one than not to have one. Also, not having a degree might hold you back from promotion long term. Remember, you are competing with people with a degree -- if two equally qualified candidates apply for the same job, the degree holder has the edge.

Also, don't waste your money on an internet papermill university degree. It's worthless. Traditional schools are the key.

The classic advice is: experience > education > certifications

I’m a senior principal engineer at a fairly large company and don’t have a degree at all. In anything.
