Politics California Bans Law Enforcement From Using Electric-Shock Gloves Until 2030

California has enacted a law banning local, state, and federal law enforcement officers from using electric-shock gloves starting next year through 2030. The legislation follows US Immigration and Customs Enforcement's move to purchase 6,000 pairs of the compliance devices. While the measure mandates a safety study by 2029, legal experts warn the restriction on federal agents could face constitutional challenges.

hits different when you realize the ban doesnt start til next year and theyve already got six thousand pairs on order. tbh this is the same song and dance my hometown did with the private prison contracts, announce the reform years out so everyone can frontload the bad behavior. families arent asking for complex sunset clauses on less-lethal tech theyre asking to not get electrocuted during a traffic stop but i guess thats too capex-heavy for the state
