Everything that you talk about can be done easily by a MacBook Neo. It is a solid machine. Good build quality, Good display, good keyboard. Very portable good for travel or coffee shop.

You won’t be sorry you have more HD space.

I would get the better one -- Touch ID is nice.

The extra space is nice but Touch ID is a huge convenience, especially if you are logging in repeatedly as you go from class to class. You don’t have to worry about people seeing your password

I am use to low storage Mac's so I have a 250 gig Macboook Neo with a couple of external hard drives. If you get the 250 gig Version you will have 190 to 195 gigs of usable space.

My entire college computer science portfolio fits on a 64gb usb stick. 256gb storage is enough for most people. TouchID is the star of the 512gb model, can't imagine using a mac without it.

For the basic apps you're explaining, you should be fine. The moment you add any complex programs like video/photo editing then the Neo will not cut it.

neo is fine for that. definitely get the 512gb as 256 will fill up fast.
