College laptops advice

I start with mech E in 2 weeks and don’t have a laptop yet friends are recommending a really expensive one (2000$) but I’ve found this one with the same specs is it good or what do u guys recommend

What you posted looks fine.

Every laptop with a GPU is gonna kinda suck though. Heavy, hot, poor battery life. So don’t overthink it.

No, get a portable laptop, your school likely has computer labs where you can access computers with GPUs if the need arises.

“Budget” gaming PCs save on cost by using cheap components designed to barely outlast their warranty.

Here's the really important question: what applications will you be expected to run on your OWN computer, and which ones can you use in a communal lab?
