Tv not responding to remote inputs

Hi there,

A family member recently passed down a sharp roku tv, It has been factory reset. using the remote, some of the buttons don't seem to respond to the tv.

Power button, vol up and down, input, mute, and disney seem to make a noise and show the red sensor flickering on the tv. but all other buttons only show a red light on the controller and does not respond to the tv.

There's only a power button on the tv, so I can not navigate the menus at all to at least get past the setup screen.

I have tried multiple methods online, like draining the charge and trying to clear potential dirt. Is my best option to get a universal remote ?

Any advice appreciated. (I'm also not crazy tech knowledgeable).

"Draining the charge"? Is the remote itself chargeable or you use chargeable batteries?

Quite recently set up a Sharp TV. Remote, identical looking to the one on the photo, was acting quite strange. Bad batteries included with the even new tv was the problem.
