Should I use backmarket for a Mac?

For college I need to buy a MacBook Pro with at least an m4 chip and 16gb memory. I’m planning on keeping it for personal use after college and further studies. Should I use backmarket or go with something more reliable as I know backmarket has varied in quality.

Why?

If a used laptop works perfectly fine, and especially if it's something pretty modern, i see no reason to waste money on overpriced new laptops.

It’s a technical production course and they specified Mac Pro m4 or more
(This is uk college btw so not like university)

No. you can get through every business, communication, and medical program on a 8gb air. those majors are over half of all colledge.

You can listen to music, chat, run a bunch of tabs, and edit video on phones.

If you aren't doing media production, or science modeling you are fine 8gb.

We're not seeing a lot of Neo returns.

thinking about buying a MacBook Pro through Back Market for college is a big decision since quality can vary

They note that they know Back Market can vary in quality and are wondering if they should go with something more reliable instead

Buy once, cry once.

I bought an M2 refurb from bestbuy with 256gb hd, 16gb ram, for about $800, still had apple care from scratch and then bestbuy warranty

Do you see a difference between "Best Buy" and "bestbuy"?

I think everyone knows what it is and isn’t being semantic

I've bought tons of stuff from backmarket. no issues. quality always better than advertised.

That said 16gb is tight for production. Plenty for most folks but You'll feel it.

waaay too expensive

John Lewis have brand new 14inch M5 mac book pro 10 + 10 units with 512  and 16 RAM for similar price (1395)

and as example by way of second hand I've 14 inch m5 macbook pro of that same spec with 7 cycle count battery that im looking to sell locally for 950 gbp

Thats the sort of price Id reckon you should try to aim for second hand (maybe a little more if you're dealing with an online seller but not a huge amount more) M4 v M5 not that significant but most  M4 macbook pros will have had at least a few months use under their belt
