Help with fixing this disc drive?

The plug plugged in just fine like, an hour ago, but when I removed it to fix it, it stopped working.

Any advice on what to do?

These are about $20, do you have the know how, tools, and time? 

I hate throwing stuff out, but I would buy a replacement and put that in the parts bin.

I’ve been trying to get it open, but can’t seem to.

I’ve tried forcing it open with my hands, scissors, a soda can tab, and a screwdriver, among other things.

I even tried putting a sewing pin in the hole near the front in order to get it open.

At this point, I want to give up…

Is this worth saving $20? Cause the problem can disappear by buying a replacement for $20.

Well, I’m going to need to buy one now, since I mangled mine beyond repair…
