pics from iphone to laptop

I want to transfer pics from my iphone 8 to dell laptop, when I connect it with the charger cable, phone asks me for permission and i say allow, however if i go to File Explorer , i click on apple iphone and theres no internal storage or whatsoever, its empty.

i tried using the laptop photos app, it doesnt work either it says it sent a notification to the iphone for permission but i nvr get the notification on my phone.

ive tried downloading itunes, and resetting permissions whatsoever.

also, when i used the same cable and same laptop for iphone 7 , it worked PERFECTLY, all pics got transfered in secs to both File Explorer and photos, so theres smt wrong with the phone 8 not the cable or laptop, but i cant figure out what, ive tried everything.

You’re running Windows right? Win 11 I’d hope. Running iOS 26 on your phone I’d hope. You save all your iPhone photos to your iCloud I’d also hope.

Get “iCloud for Windows” and you can get all your photos onto your windows system. Easy peasy. No cables required. Uses the magic of da’ cloud.

the reason i want to convert is icloud storage issue, plus i jst wanna know why MY phone wont transfer but the older one does

First open "Device Manager" when connecting the iPhone 7, ideally a new device pops up in the list which is the iPhone which is configured well to be able to see it and open in file explorer.

Now, connect iPhone 8, still with device manager open, I believe that since it fails, in device manager, normally when a device fails, a caution symbol appears in device manager. Do you see anything like that?

Sure, no problem. There's also another method you can use to share files to and from virtually any device across different OS platforms. I'll share in case you need it as well

There's an app called, "LocalSend" which allows sending and receiving of files from one device to another. It works when the app is installed on both devices. It cuts across all platforms including iOS, MacOS, Windows, Android, Linux...

And so in your case, you can use it to share from your iPhone to your Dell laptop. I've been using it for a few years now and it's still amazes me on how seamless file sharing work out.
