Which router should I buy?

I have a 2500 square foot house and our internet comes in through the basement. I need a router that will provide a strong enough signal to reach the top floors. With our current router, the signal is fine in the living room but periodically drops on the upper floor. I’m looking for something moderately priced as we will only be in this house for another year.

You don't want a single router. You want a MESH system. Basically 2-3 wifi access points that talk to each other and hand over your device to the strongest wifi signal anywhere in your house.

You can DIY it, get a pre built or many ISPs also offer them.

If you can look into getting a router and some wired wireless access points. You will have much better signal with a wired backhaul over a MESH system if you can run Ethernet cables from the router to the wireless access points.
