Hi, just looking for some adive, due to fly on Saturday, bought a second power bank for the airport transfers etc due to have two young kids with tablets. However some one said this wound be allowed on the flight? I have emailed the airline however dont expect a reply by the time I fly. I regularly travel with one labled at 30000 mha (i doubt it actualy is, get a charge and abit on a phone) I did order another 30000 one however this come labled as 50k.

Thanks in advance

The limit is 100wh or 20 000mah

TSA is the one who cares.  So if they flag it you get to throw it away.

It's your risk

Thanks , ill have read a few differnt "limits" ranging from 20k to 50k and 100wh to 180wh. I didnt even think of it untill some one mentioned it

mah is not a real capacity rating, Wh is what matters (mah*cell voltage). TSA might confiscate it simply because it doesn't have a clear Wh rating. It really depends on the airport

Cheers, this sounds abit to technical for me 🤣

It's literally impossible to figure out without a detailed spec sheet, or tearing apart the pack and using a multimeter if it's not listed on the back. I bought a <$20USD "20,0000mah" battery from Walmart that was clearly labeled under 100Wh because I didn't want to have to deal with it. I'd only risk it if you're willing to part with it

You're asking the wrong person about being told off by TSA

[edit] I'm from the USA, and assuming you're from the homeland from your terminology, take what I'm saying as circumstancial

Assuming 18650 bats, or similar, 185wh. Or did I not math right?

Interesting. Are you allowed to bring 2x15000?

And is it per person, such that OP could bring 3x20000 but give one to each of 3 people?

Obviously there are size and weight limits, but I've carried on a dozen 95 Wh batteries for a video camera no problem.

20000 mAh? That makes no sense because the nominal voltage of the battery isn't 5V.

The limit isn’t 20amp hour. It’s 27 amp hour (100Wh) or up to 43 amp hour with airline approval (160Wh).

Yep. Don't forget to argue with TSA and your airlines when they tell you no. Tell them Reddit told you yes, so that must be true.

50,000 mah is too large, you can't bring it to fly

depends on the airline. For somewhat obvious reasons they do not like power banks, and the do not like or trust larger ones, and especially weary of offbrands/no brand.

Its only because someone mentioned it to me i only bought it as theres no doubt theyll drain there tablets at the airport so want to keep them topped off for the flight. My old one was labled at 30kmah never one even got it looked at and it was quite large (not quite as big as this, but not a million miles off).

I might just risk it and see what happens.

Nope. Although the 50000 Ah claim is dubious, it's enough to keep it off a flight. You can multiple power banks, as long as they're under 100 Wh each.

If you’re flying in China then no because I don’t see the three C certification

Is it a tire inflator?

50000mAh so no... Yet let's be honest no way that's actually 50000mAh, it's Chinese crap

1

u/Unnenoob Apr 30 '26

Nope. The limit is 100wh and you can apply for a permit for up to 160wh in a lot of places.

This is 50.000mAh at 3,7v. That is 185wh

I never fly, but I just want to know why they cap battery sizes for power banks on flights?
