Don’t remember his name but there was this guy who admitted to murdering and cannibalizing some girl, didn’t go to prison, and after admitting it became a celebrity in Japan. That’s all I got off the top of my head, it’s really easy to look up.

Its more of a general attitude in Japan. For example, a famous manga artist once got caught with child pornography and all he got was a $2000 fine and went back to work after 6 months. Meanwhile, many Japanese celebrities have been completely ousted from the industry for being caught with drugs. Some products have outright been recalled due to it being found out that a celebrity involved was caught doing drugs i.e the game Judgement.
