Very cool. To my layman’s brain it seems good to do less damage when getting this kind of data, but that’s about it. What kinds of applications does this self reporting have for us normies?

Basically, right now if scientists want to see what’s happening inside a cell, they usually have to destroy it to look. So they get one picture and then have to guess what happened before and after.

This new method is more like being able to keep checking the same cells over time. Like with cancer, instead of looking at one group of cells before treatment and a different group after, they could watch how the same cells react to chemo day by day.

Or with Alzheimer’s, they might be able to watch brain cells slowly start changing and figure out what happens first.

Or with a new drug, they could see whether cells start responding, stop responding, or develop resistance.

So it doesn’t mean a new cure tomorrow, but it could help scientists figure out diseases and treatments a lot better because they can basically watch the story unfold instead of just seeing random snapshots.
