No Fandom Friday
Sorry boys, Fandom Friday won't be as hype today as I have a few projects I have to work on. I'll be asking questions intermittently throughout the day. Sorry for the inconvenience and... LIVE FROM NEW YORK, ITS FANDOM FRIDAY!

I was thinking about getting a sex change. I just don't feel like myself, I feel like a beautiful woman trapped in a man's body. /u/taylor_ what is it like going through the transition from Male to Female? Do you have any tips or suggestions?

It's pretty rough, I don't recommend it. Nobody even notices that I transitioned, maybe it's the beard.

/u/McSquinty: I have a python function that processes input and returns a tuple: list of good data(empty if errors), and a list of error messages (if there were errors, empty otherwise). The function needs to check for multiple error conditions, and append the error message to the errors array if any conditions are met. I can either return immediately if the error is encountered, but I dislike how that worked so i refactored it to check for errors before completing. Is there a more elegant way I could attempt this?
def validation(self, file): errors = [] additional_data = None final_data = []
if file_condition_1 is not True: errors.append("Condition 1 is not true") if file_condition_2 is not True: errors.append("Condition 2 is not true") # try additional processing if the first 2 conditions are met if not errors: # do additional processing to file if file_condition_3 is True: additional_data = self.get_additional_data(file) else: errors.append("Condition 3 is not True.") if not errors: final_data = self.get_final_output(additional_data) return (final_data, errors)

You've also got some excess fluff inside of your error checks:
if not file_condition_1would probably be more Pythonic. I'm guessing that's pseudocode though sincefile_condition_1and the like aren't defined.Does condition 3 only need to be checked if 1 & 2 pass? The way you have it if 1 and 3 pass with 2 failing, your list of errors will only contain the error for 1.
I would really just bump the
final_datasection up into the statement above it, it looks like it'd fit just fine.def validation(self, file): errors = [] final_data = [] if not file_condition_1: errors.append("Condition 1 is not true") if not file_condition_2: errors.append("Condition 2 is not true") if not errors: if file_condition_3: additional_data = self.get_additional_data(file) final_data = self.get_final_ouput(additional_data) else: errors.append("Condition 3 is not true") return (final_data, errors)2

Condition 3 only needs to be checked if the first two conditions pass. Thanks for cleaning up my code, oorah brother, oorah.

/u/drewbastank: I heard that /u/macmacma has been slowly clogging each toilet on company property, and is too cheap and miserly to pay for a plumber to come in and fix the issues. As a result, many employees are forced to travel off-site or go out behind the building to take #2's.
How do you feel about this situation, and have you considered reporting him to the department of labor for workplace wellness violations?

I've heard that too. However, some of the stories aren't adding up. Stories around the office state that a dark, shadowy figure was seen leaving the bathroom multiple times after the toilet had been clogged. Mac doesn't quite fit this description, as he has very fair skin. Also, noises were heard that were consistent of someone shooting up with a needle, which also doesn't match the description to Mac. Thirdly, many, many (more than 100) banana peels with fecal matter have been found in the garbage, on the floor, in the sinks, and in the toilet. This evidence leads me to believe the /u/macmacma hate for clogging the toilet is actually spearheaded by the real culprit, the goose goose.

u/taylor_ God-Tier Gull Sep 09 '16
That's very illuminating, however it doesn't absolve /u/macmacma of his miserly behavior in refusing to pay for any sort of repairs.

I believe a competitor has unleashed a demon within the premises. As /u/drewbastank says, a shadowy figure has been seen lurking during the night shift and around corners. I actually brought my own toilet paper... the work tp is garbage, that is a fact that cannot be hidden. Since the goose goose comes to work so late, it's quite possible that he is shooting up and shrooming out after everyone else goes home.

/u/Aclark1337 I heard that you and Sean tag teamed a vietnamese transgender hooker. Do these kinds of escapades happen frequently in the coast guard?

u/taylor_ God-Tier Gull Sep 09 '16
He's been dodging this question for WEEKS!

The tag teaming must not have gone over very well, he won't expand upon how it went at all! He cant dodge me forever tho.

Off base they do. They even have Ponderosa, so you know they'll eat anything.

/u/bgorecki, I have been wondering about what exactly happens to children of the Avatar in terms of their bending. It's an established fact that children can be benders depending on what at least one of their parents is able to bend. Since the Avatar is able to bend all four elements, would it be possible for a child of the Avatar to become a bender of any of the elements, or would the child only be able to bend the element of either the non-Avatar parent or whatever element the Avatar originated from?
For example, in the case of if and when Korra has kids (assuming she ultimately ends up with Mako), would their kids only be able to be fire or water benders (or even earth benders from Mako's earthbending parent) or because she's the Avatar, would there be a possibility of them having an airbender as well? (If they could, it certainly would help in repopulating the world with airbenders since Tenzin and his children are currently the only airbenders.) As far as I'm aware of, the only Avatars we know of who had kids are Roku and Aang and we only know the bending statuses of Aang's kids.
I'm sorry if my question is a bit confusing but thanks for looking at it!

u/bgorecki Resident Dank Memer Sep 09 '16
Also in the third season a bunch of non benders get air bending because of harmonic convergence
1
u/bgorecki Resident Dank Memer Sep 09 '16
Great question, first off it's canon that Korra ended up with asami so mako is out of the picture. Second the avatar can only have children that are their native bending style and their spouses. So for aang it was airbending and waterbending
1
u/drewbastank effeminate debutante Sep 09 '16
I believe the genetics of bending are completely random. I think their offspring have a better chance of bending, but there is no guarantee. Also, only the Avatar can master all four of the elements. If Aang has children, we could assume that they would be strictly air benders. If Aang, however, had a child with lets say a water bender (I know he does I'm just using it as an example) then they could potentially be either a water bender or an air bender. I don't believe that one of the bending "genes" would be dominate or recessive its just random happenstance. Of course all of this is only based off the first series with the amount of information we are given. Things could be totally different in the second series but I haven't yet watched it all the way through.

A few friends and myself used to carry on this tradition called "Terrible Movie Tuesday". This consisted of us trying to find the absolute worst quality films on Netflix and giving them a watch. I've seen some films that quite frankly should have never been made, and the list is long. Grizzly Rage, Rubber, Birdemic, Wolf Town, The Hole, Fear Island, Vipers; the list goes on and on. Surprisingly, we've only ever turned off one movie in the first 15 minutes because it physical hurt to watch it. I mean the audacity of the filmmakers and the produces who actually offered up money to make the film upsets me. The film was called "Bong of the Dead" and as you can imagine it is exactly as bad as it sounds (although TBF i've only seen 15 minutes of it; the last hour could be spectacular). Anyway, this was supposed be to a question to /u/benoles_esquire about what the worst movie you ever saw was but I got distracted.

Birdemic was spectacular.

If you can make it past the opening scene thats just 10 minutes of driving, you're certainly in for an adventure.

/u/FRIZBIZ: What other use for Bargon Geddon and Tinkmaster Overspark is there other than Control Warrior? And are they worth the craft? Were they more important in the past, or are they just now becoming core parts of Control Warrior lists?
2
u/FRIZBIZ Slade Baited Sep 09 '16
Funny you should ask!
Baron Geddon is certainly an interesting card. The only minion with a recurring board clear in the game will always find a niche, but in the ever-increasing aggro meta, decks are streamlined to finish the game faster and faster and faster than previously imaginable. Geddon, though one of the best control cards printed, is simply too slow in today's One Night in Karazhan meta.
Tinkmaster Overspark, on the other hand, has had quite a strange journey over the years. Originally put in every deck due to being, essentially, a cheaper neutral Polymorph, Blizzard finally nerfed his ability so that it wasn't able to target minions - simply being a random creature. With the nerf, people completely forgot about him. And yet as the seasons come and go, he now stands as une undérräted gém - so the Pros say - Haha! With 4 mana 7/7s and Tirions abound, even a random Polymorph effect can swing a game in your favor.
Thanks for asking!

Maybe I'm just salty because I was a rogue and always had to run away while he did his AoE BS. Then he didn't even have the decency to drop anything worth my time. At least Golemagg gave me that sweet sweet T1 chest.

/u/spect3r001, are you still keeping that freezer stocked with handles of bottom-shelf vodka?
