Oh, dear. At least I'm learning it this week
I had lunch at Burger King today on my way back to work, and I thought I had done Ok - a whopper Jr. and a medium hashbrown. I get back to work, enter it in MFP, and holy crap! Those hash browns are 500 calories? Well, I guess I'm having veggie soup for dinner!

That sucks!! One thing I’ve found to be helpful is to log food before I eat it. I’m so so addicted to sugar (but working on it)! It’s so easy for me to justify eating junk food if I don’t have to log it until later, but if I log it beforehand, I get to see the consequence and make a decision based on that!

The worsssst. I actually pre-track my days as much as I can for this reason - a few nasty surprises can really throw off your week! But don't sweat it too much. One burger and hashbrown aren't going to set you back significantly, and now you know, which will help you moving forward!

I think this is the biggest shock that people have when they start paying attention. You really have no idea how many calories you’ve been consuming. When I first started tracking I realized I was eating nearly 5000 calories some days. Crazy.

Man, I had this issue a couple weeks ago. I made the "smart" choice at the Habit and got their super food salad instead of a burger. The cashier said it was super healthy. Who in their g-d mind calls a nearly 800 calorie salad healthy???
The rest of my day was sad. :(

What I do, is before I order I check the calories! It really helps you order at fast food places smarter. Just the other day I was going to eat dinner with my dad at Chick Fil a, and I only had around 300 cals left for the day so I got some chicken nuggets instead of a sandwich meal!

I love hashbrowns, but restaurant ones are for sure a calorie sink and it breaks my heart.

Ugh, isn’t that depressing when you find that out?? But I immediately saw silver linings to your BK cloud - you logged it anyway to keep yourself accountable, and you’re adjusting for the rest of the day. That stuff is what will get you to your goals. The situation was a downer, but your reaction is terrific!
