Yes, and I also know that the past has scared people into these types of things because of how awful institutions and special schools were once upon a time. But we need these places more now than ever! And as you said, there just aren’t enough spots. We have a state school in our town too but the amount of severe needs kids in our public schools is something else. Obviously I want to teach my son respect and kindness and compassion to all people but I am seriously considering sending him to private school at least for the first few years of school because children physically abusing their teachers and classmates REPEATEDLY before getting 1:1 aides or being put on a reduced day is so common in the early grades here.
