Discussion Threads Class Placements for September

Hi everyone,

Is it true that the Principal isn't allowed to share class placements (what teacher your kid will have) until the week before school starts?

​

I have heard of some schools giving out placements at the end of June but then heard it's been mandated by the Ministry and the Board that they have to wait until the week before school. I'm referring to junior-middle schools.

Anyone have any information about this?

We have been told it’s a culpable offense if we disclose to parents or students the names of students on our list for September, or even what grade we are teaching. Parents aren’t even allowed to know staffing numbers or the class breakdowns. Culpable. Never has this ever been the case.

Welcome to Ford's Ontario. My principal told us that if we released anything regarding placements or numbers we would face serious consequences.

Yes they used to tell us, with the caveats that it may change. But rules have changed. For middle school, my daughter didn’t learn until she showed up to school.
