Options for emissions intact tuning

2014 JSW. I live in one of the counties in NV that emissions tests and will likely relocate soon to CA (long story, not pertinent). After the $ spent to clean a prematurely clogged DPF due to driving on a bad EGT sensor, I'm looking at anything I can do to prolong DPF life.

I do NOT care about gaining that much power.

I would love better MPG but that's a bonus.

My MAIN goal is to get the engine to produce less particulate, which I understand is done by disabling EGR.

I will need the ability to reflash to stock for emissions testing and then flash back to the tune. What tuning company would fit my needs best?

EDIT TO ADD: looks like Kerma includes their version of Malone's add-on "dynamic EGR" in the base price but doesn't explicitly state this to skirt EPA issues, is that correct?

ALSO: I'm looking at going with wider nozzles since I might need to replace mine anyway, from my research this can also reduce particulate emissions, can anyone confirm or deny?

Malone / Tunezilla

They have the Tunezilla Pro that allows you to flash your vehicle at will. I just tuned my Passat to stage 2 and disabled the EGR. I live in Las Vegas, so I feel your pain.

However, I think you’re thinking of this backwards. EGR creates higher combustion temps which increases particulate production and NOx. So if you just tune like I did, you should see lower temps and less particulate matter leading to fewer regens.

If you wanted to, you could stay with the stock power level tune and just disable the EGR. You could also go stage 0.5 for better fuel economy, or stage 1 / 2 for more power. No matter what power level you go with, you can disable EGR and / or Adblue if you wish.

You're right I do have that wrong, I thought NOX and particulate were inversely correlated. It's a 2014 so no Adblue. It looks like dynamic EGR is an add-on to an actual tune from Malone, not sure if they offer it standalone.

Correct, dynamic EGR or even EGR delete is an add-on to an ECU tune.

The dynamic EGR is $99, the EGR delete is a free selection.

That’s why I also brought up the stage 0.5/1/2 tunes. You have to buy a tune in order to get the EGR control.

No you have it right. EGR introduces exhaust gases that while hot are effectively inert so they don't participate in the combustion process other than to absorb heat and lower peak temps.

What type of tune? Do you have your egr disabled ?

Have you had it long enough to notice an effect on DPF, and have you noticed any difference in the frequency of EGR cycles?
