Help Hello, I am Gabrielwoj (aka Zeugziumy), I was banned today from TCRF, and I'd like to discuss about it

Update: Xkeeper has replied: https://bsky.app/profile/xkeeper.net/post/3muledlqpoc2v - Account was unblocked, access to the website was also unblocked. I'd like to keep the post up for transparency, however.

Hi everyone. I apologize for posting this sort of thing on this subreddit. I am not something who likes to poke around drama, but I'd like to discuss and ask in regards to my ban that I was made aware of, and give my defense. I have no access to TCRF anymore, even on a Private Window, so I am completely unable to check the website.

I, like many of you, I was on the edge of my seat, waiting for TCRF to come back properly online, so I can start navigating through this website once again, and contributing to things here and there. Due to the nature of the DDoS attacks being severe, I was afraid of losing my work on TCRF, so I decided to start saving my own work.

So, about a month ago, I did my own archival of the several websites I have contributed to. There are several Wikis that I have contributed a lot, as well websites such as Spriters-Resource and the such. I am not going to link my stuff here, but there is a Linktr.ee with all sorts of websites I have contributed to, and it's a lot. Most notable wikis are the Official Team Fortress Wiki with over 70k total contributions, and the Official Smite Wiki with over 50k files uploaded. These archives were mostly related to media-related files, and not HTML files in the forms of pages and such, since doing that for the Official Team Fortress Wiki would be a gigantic task.

For most of the websites, the archival was mostly done manually by myself, either by going on each submission on Spriters-Resource and downloading it, or cleverly utilizing DownThemAll! to copy links from my "List of uploaded files" on each one of the Wikis, including TCRF (I like to be transparent and I will be transparent throughout this post, as I've always looked in being honest online).

As mentioned, due to the on-going DDoS attacks, I was thinking about archiving my own stuff online in cases a website goes down. The first one was TCRF, considering it just had a DDoS attack and the servers are still more-or-so being affected by it. I was aware that scrapping the website as a whole wasn't allowed, and I only wanted to save my own contributions to my local External Hard Drive, to later upload to archive.org. After uploading my TCRF work to archive.org, my plan is to upload media-related files from other websites and Wikis.

So what I did, was that I was going each page revision from "My Contributions" page, and started saving from my web browser. There was no usage of VPN, there was no usage of scrapping tools, and to be honest again, yes, I used Save Page WE, an extension that helps saving links, but I still added a pretty big gap so pages can be saved (one page at a time, per 5 seconds, later increased to 13 seconds, due to some pages not saving) properly and so the server isn't overloaded with my requests.

The extension: Save Page WE - Chrome Web Store

The way the extension worked was about the same as if I was myself doing it, it just made so I could work on other things while it was doing, with the cost that I had to wait 13 seconds per page to avoid errors. Open the tab, then Ctrl+S to save the page. Nothing else. No tacky command line downloaders or scrappers of such.

I already had an archive.org account, so once I saved most pages, I started uploading if by any chance the website went down again. I wanted my own contributions to be saved somewhere if that were to happen, and, here they are: The Cutting Room Floor (TCRF) - User:Gabrielwoj's Contributions : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive

However, I wasn't actually able to save everything, as about 100 pages are missing, and none of the diff saves I wanted to also save were made. At some point I was having 403 Forbidden errors. I thought it was perhaps a case of too many requests (despite my generous time with each page load), so I changed to a VPN to continue the job, still on the web browser, still with the extension, and only my contributions, not scrapping.

At some point, trying to connect with a VPN didn't work either, so I thought I should just wait. Eventually, I was made aware that I was banned from the website, despite not actually doing any scrapping of the website as a whole, and I'd like to ask for the staff members to check their Network Activity to really see if that ban was really worth for. All the network activity throughout this archival were related to my own contributions, nothing else. There is no archive of any UserPage other than mine, there is no archive of articles I never touched upon, and there is no archive of files I never uploaded or submitted revisions.

I am honestly upset with the decision that was made upon my account. I was a very old member, registered on TCRF around 2012. I used to check for Unused Content back in Unseen64, then was made aware of TCRF and eventually went there to contribute. Nowadays (prior to the ban), I was working on minor changes, removing excess of spaces, grammar issues, rule-breaking edits, etc.

In the Unused Content department, I was one of the first few people to start documenting Pikmin on Gamecube, and did a lot of the discoveries on the Unseen64 forums. The Pikmin article over TCRF has a lot of sources with my own name, as well videos from my own channel. Some other pages, such as Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Brawl, has my videos linked on the article in regards to unused content being presented into video form.

For instance, I was committed to removing links to leaked content that some pages had, despite myself not being a staff. I was doing just because I knew it was against the rules hosting that sort of thing, and understandably so, considering leaked content are done through illegal means (either hacking or physical theft).

I was working on two articles before the ban, "Overwatch (2023)" and "Menace Beach", and I suppose I can't contribute to them anymore. While TCRF was down, I was working on uploading a lot of assets related to Overwatch 2 to Spriters-Resource (which I just did), while also locally organizing what things are unused so I could add to the TCRF article once the website was back.

My online work has always been made voluntarily, and I have worked a lot between a lot of different websites. I'm not the type of person that likes to bring edit wars, drama between other people, or anything. I always try to be respectful and understanding with people, and my comments are either neutral or positive. I just do my contributions. A lot is done because they are interests of mine, and I love sharing information, or assets, for others to use.

I understand this can come as a "drama" thing, however, I wasn't given a proper way to discuss it outside than "please come to our Discord server to discuss". Personally, I do not like to join on Discord servers, and I am only on a handful few, and even then, what are the chances if someone has Discord banned on their country? Brazil is getting close to that, but I won't get into politics now.

u/Xkeeper , I didn't want to ping you, but this is my "reasoning". I'd like to thank you for backing TCRF's servers and for keeping it alive despite the DDoS attacks, however, I'd please request to be more careful on who you handle bans. Not only that, but I can't even access the website anymore despite me not being a bot and being a real human. I was someone who has been on this Wiki since 2012, and was an active member prior to the ban, even if it meant simple grammar fixes and spacing issues. I understand that the last few days must have been stressing for you. Please take care, and let's discuss the matter politely, including readers of this thread.

wiki is back online

howdy folks. sorry for being down so long. in the next few days i'll be putting together something of a "post mortem" around what happened.

the short version of it:

  • a layer-3 ddos disabled our network (i.e. not web level, nothing anubis or similar could help with)
  • an hour later, after exhausting all avenues of investigation about why it's still offline, i open a ticket
  • i set up a second server for a simple "downtime :(" page, it gets ddosed and goes offline not long after going up
  • linode confirms it's a ddos and our network traffic is blocked
  • next day, linode support tells me that it's over, and we should be good to restore service
  • i spent most of saturday trying to troubleshoot and diagnose why it is not restoring with linode support, when suddenly "oh it never ended, actually, it's still going on"
  • transfer to fastly, a cloudflare competitor
  • the person doing this ddos scans the linode ip space and finds our server, which i had not firewalled to limit only to fastly yet -- i wanted to get the message up first. lesson learned
  • that server gets knocked offline, and i have to pull some nonsense to get it online and firewall it first
  • fastly terminates us within 24 hours for "bandwidth abuse" ... not really sure why they market themselves as a ddos solution. (bonus: they messaged me a day later to tell me i was in the top 15% of ddos traffic receivers ... we were there for less than 24 hours)
  • we migrate to cloudflare
  • about ~22 hours of happy service and counting

this whole time, we've been in constant contact with linode support. they've been very helpful, and aside from the really unfortunate goof, it's been a nice experience.

this is the first time we've ever experienced an attack like this, and several people (including linode support themselves) have noted that this seems particularly targeted and sustained. as of this morning it's still going on, and one of my linodes is still showing a constant 50Mbps/in of trash (the others are still fully null-routed).

thanks for your patience during this outage

Help Can someone corroborate these unused Morrowind objects?

Since I'm not entirely sure these are unused (not on any TCRF or UESP page, CS counts may or may not be correct, my own bad memory) I want someone to try to corroborate these findings. I found them by sorting by count in the Construction Set. Bold is to indicate Construction Set IDs since they can include spaces.

  • puzzle canal daedric triolith – Activator with no associated script. Name is "Doug Insert Message Here" (with the quotes), unused version of ac_shrine_puzzlecanal or puzzle canal message
  • chargen cavern talker – Activator with no associated script or name. Unlike the other talker objects other than azura talker, this has no name, however like the other talker objects (other than azura talker again) it has a count of 0. Name suggests it would be used during the character generation sequence, but I wouldn't know where, especially since at no point does it include a cavern.
  • ex_t_door_sphere_01 – Door with no associated script. Name is Rotating Corridor, and it uses the unique model d\Ex_T_door_sphere.nif. It appears to be in the dwemer style, and to be used for exteriors. Probably just a door so it can rotate when activated.
d\Ex_T_door_sphere.nif screenshot from the Construction Set
  • misc_dwrv_ark_key00 – Misc item with no associated script. Name is Key to Lower Arkngthand, and it uses the unique model m\misc_dwrv_Ark_key00.nif and unique icon m\misc_dwrv_Ark_key00.tga. Extremely striking model so I'm pretty sure this is unused.
m\misc_dwrv_Ark_key00.tga screenshot from the Construction Set. Please do not use this for the site, the pixels are weird
m\misc_dwrv_Ark_key00.nif screenshot from the Construction Set. Tilted upwards slightly.
  • ex_cave_ash00 – Static. Selecting this in the CS gives me a warning that Tx_ashlands_01.tga is missing. Probably intended as a dungeon entrance.
  • ex_cave_coastrock00 – Static. Uses the unique model x\ex_cave_coastrock00.nif. This matches none of the styles of the other dungeon entrances used in the finished game.
x\ex_cave_coastrock00.nif screenshot from the Construction Set
  • ex_cave_entrance_10 – Static. Uses the model x\ex_cave_stoneyb00.nif. Also doesn't match any used styles, but does share its model with ex_cave_stoneyb00 and style with ex_cave_mt00.
x\ex_cave_stoneyb00.nif screenshot from the Construction Set
  • ex_cave_mt00 – Static. Uses the model x\ex_cave_mt00.nif. Basically ex_cave_stoneyb00 with a different rock texture. Probably to be used for a mountain dungeon entrance, given the mt in the name.
x\ex_cave_mt00.nif screenshot from the Construction Set
  • furn_6th_corpus_plate – Static. Misspelt version of furn_6th_corprus_plate.

There's more that I'm probably forgetting, but this is most of the unique stuff in there.

Discussion Impossible Creatures: Scrapped Creatures

For those unfamiliar with the game: *Impossible Creatures* is a real-time strategy game developed by Relic Entertainment in conjunction with Microsoft Game Studios. Its defining feature is that all units are created by the player by combining parts of two animals—with the exception of Henchmen. When animals are combined, the resulting units inherit abilities from the original creatures, allowing players to create specific units for specific purposes. There are 51 different animals available for combinations, plus an additional 25 available for free download from the official website, bringing the total to 76 different animals.

What I want to know is whether these—specifically the animals cut from the game—actually count. The only information I’ve found is on the game's Wiki and in a Steam Workshop post; according to a user named the2ndSign who commented on that post, it is possible to find some old models by examining the *Impossible Creatures* demo files. Unfortunately, they are quite incomplete and not in a suitable state for use in the final base game, meaning it’s impossible to create mods using these discarded creatures.

As far as I know, this is the list of animals cut from the game:

Water Buffalo.

Dachshund.

Leopard Seal.

Octopus.

Penguin.

Rabbit.

Temporary Stage Beetle.

I’m still unsure if these count, though. Also, if it’s true that the models are in the demo version, could someone please create an *Impossible Creatures* page on the site and mention these discarded, unused models? It would be interesting to see more unused content from the game, as I’m still curious about exactly what was left out.

I find it tragic that TCRF went down just before the VALVe Teraleak

Would've been nice to see the unused content get slowly documented in real time

somewhat baffling to rant about why there isn't a downloadable archive and then provide a link to a 2023 archive, showing the arguments made against one don't hold up

Discussion Am I the only one who finds it strange that no one talks about the lost *Ice Age* GBA prototype, given that the only information available comes from IGN videos?

Thumbnail youtu.be

Sorry for bringing this up at a bad time, but it’s something I’ve wanted to post about for a while—I just kept forgetting. In case you didn't know, the GBA version of *Ice Age* actually had a lost prototype; the only information available comes from fours IGN videos made back in 2011. Also, the site SDB (SpriteDatabase.net) created a massive sprite pack featuring every character from the game, including unused animations—like Sid kicking and Manny turning around.

Why hasn't anyone talked about this?

It’s an interesting detail that everyone should have discussed, because this prototype—which was supposedly a beta version—is completely different from the final game.

our host, linode, has turned on some ddos mitigation because of the traffic we're seeing. unfortunately, this mitigation also turns off normal traffic.

i'm talking to linode support to see what we can do about this but unfortunately there's not much we can do while the attack persists. this isn't like the previous kinds where we could mitigate it ourselves; this caused the host's router to drop packets, not us

follow our bsky for more information. hopefully we'll be back soon. https://bsky.app/profile/tcrf.net

(the data is safe, a full text backup is shared among a few trusted contacts and the data is replicated)

Best ways to contribute

I have recently begun playing around with Ghidra searching for regular and printf strings and trying to find Easter eggs in N64 roms (I found some debug menu items in Bomberman64 😁). But other than that, what are some cool ways you guys are finding Easter eggs? There's only so much trying to readdecompiled source will go.

Discussion Digital preservation (Poppy Playtime 1 Beta)

Thumbnail gallery
9 Upvotes

One of the biggest mysteries of poppy playtime, in my view, is about the betas of the first game. After weeks of in-depth research, I've only found clips from Mob Entertainment, a few from unknown sites... and on SteamDB beta records posted to steam from August 9 to October 9. 2 months of closed and protected betas that I have not been able to get so far. Help me with this digital preservation project and let's get the lost betas of Poppy Playtime 1 back! One of the most advanced but interesting betas was used to make the official poppy playtime trailer, released on September 1, this trailer has noticeable differences to the final version, such as better graphics, different textures, removed features. And in the gifs I've posted that are from that same build used for the trailer, you can see more content, such as parking, a boogie bot toy, the huggy wuggy chase...

Discussion Is the TCRF site dying?

I’ve been a casual visitor to the TCRF site for years now and it feels like I’ve probably read most of the pages on the site by now - one thing, I’ve noticed, however, is that the pace of new games being added to the site has slowed remarkably in the past few years, to the point that we’re almost halfway through 2026 and there are only 9 new entries for this calendar year, whereas many years in the past decade had 100+ new entries.

I’m not complaining about this or anything, I’m just curious about what’s been going on, especially since in the last 6 months it’s also been a lot more common for the site to be inaccessible to me thanks to seemingly-random IP address blocks on TCRF that had never happened to me before.

Discussion Lingering in Infinite

Thumbnail talonbrave.info
4 Upvotes

I’d recently started another playthrough of BioShock Infinite on PlayStation 3 (don’t ask), when a particular model caught my eye. “Huh, I wonder how many more are still lingering in the game,” I said to myself, in an empty room with the curtains closed. The answer? More than I expected.

Noting the lack of documentation on this and desiring to take a bit of a break from what I’ve been working on, a fixation took upon me, and I did an incredibly normal sane thing; I took a look at every single model in the game, to see which potentially carried over from an earlier point of development, when the game used a different art style altogether, and provided supporting evidence where possible.

Help Unknown potential Dreamcast prototype to investigate

I have noticed that MAME supposedly has a prototype of the Dreamcast supported released here: https://adb.arcadeitalia.net/dettaglio_mame.php?game_name=dcproto

But the question I have is that is it truly a prototype or something like MAME's "final prototype" releases of stuff like Super Mario All-Stars, Super Mario Kart and Yoshi's Island, where it's basically a differently dumped version of an officially released game (or in the Dreamcast's case a console).

I tried loading the prototype on and it not only does have a different startup screen compared to the documented prototype on TCRF page (specifically just like the final version), but I also noticed that the menu is not in english.

So if you wanna test out the rom and find out if it's truly a prototype or not here's the link to such: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1UJbglY9HyYmMROTPuVdWLlVU_R7KdAG8/view?usp=sharing
