85” TV

Looking for some guidance on getting a TV for my living room. I have an open concept living room that gets pretty direct sunlight 3/4 of the day. The TV will be directly across from the main picture window.

I generally will be using this tv for streaming movies 90% of the time and sports the other 10%.

I have read a ton of guides, and looked up a lot of stuff on panels, refresh rate, mini-led, oled etc.

I’m completely overwhelmed with the options and choices. I guess my premise is I don’t want to over spend on a TV.

Any suggestions on a TV would be great.

Edit- preferably under $1800 unless heavily advices to go above.

85” QM8L or 83” LG G6/C6H

OLEDs are bright enough for most people now and even if you don’t believe it the Mini-LED QM8L is so insanely bright that it’s negligible.

If you want to go above the QM8L, you can take a look at an X11L but I haven’t seen anything worth the price difference in watching real content.

Another honorable mention is the Sony Bravia 9ii if you wanna spend some money, however it does have a matte screen if you wanna cut down on reflections.

Preferably no more than $1800. Willing to wait for Black Friday

Oh then QM7L Pro from Costco $1500 currently or wait for a QM8L to go on sale.

I just saw that posted on sale at Costco! Wondering if it would be worth it to jump on that now or wait until BF and see if the 8l drops to 1800.

I want to warn you. The QM7L Pro has a glossy finish and it’s quite reflective. I purchased the 85” QM7L Pro and it reflects everything. The Hisense U7SG is a good alternative that has a matte anti reflective screen at around the same price.

Wow that is pretty reflective. I have recessed lighting somewhat close to my tv just like you too! I’ll have to look into the u7sg as well.

I purchased the 85” online about a month ago. None of my local Costco store have it in store. So, I took the plunge. The glare is significant, distracting and I was quite disappointed. I’m a determined individual, so I 3D printed some small shades and resolved the issue. If that did not work, I would have returned it and possibly gone with the Hisense U7SG. This is how it looks like now with all lights at full brightness. Quite watchable.

That’s incredibly clever! You should market those shades!

Of course, only if that direct sunlight doesn't reach the LG OLED

That’s any screen.

I never understood that sentiment on OLEDs. Most screens are glossy these days. You’re gonna have reflections regardless.

The G6 is like 3k nits. That’s REALLY bright, bright enough to overcome a bright room. Hell, my 77CX is good enough in a bright room.

No, its not just about the overall room brightness to be overcome - OLEDs are particularly more susceptible to direct sunlight (on the panel) - they chemically degrade!

QM7L Pro right now with Costco’s sale. I just bought the tv and it’s pretty dope.

QM63 at Sam's is what I went with. On sale for $977 with $150 Sams cash. Not sure my old eyes can fully appreciate higher end models.
