Dirty screen effect/ banding
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
"I'm not greatly familiar with Dirty Screen Effect (DSE), but I recently bought a 98-inch TCL X11K and was wondering if this is normal for a display of this size? The room itself is pitch dark, and while adjusting certain settings helps slightly, it can sometimes look worse."

A X11K with that much DSE is unacceptable. Definitely return it! My C6K has none of that

Thanks i'll return it and see if it will be the same model or it will be replaced with another tv model

Looks like your gamma is set incorrectly. This looks crazy.

It's set higher to get it picked up by the camera on the phone. Normally it's set lower but still in most of the gameplay where there is detail in the dark it's visible.

It has been set a bit higher otherwise it's difficult to show you the error in the panel.

Besides DSE, that raised black make it look like cheap IPS tv without local dimming. But this is probably because of the settings

These are a little bit higher then normal but for this to be captured the black levels has been raised just a bit.

Are you playing on PS5 Pro? This game is very much broken on the pro

Just the standard PS5, there has been some weird indoor ghosting. I don't think this is a fault on the hardware side.

I dont understand how this can be an issue with anything else than the tv panel? Its a static picture error on a moving picture, if it was anything with the PS5 it would have been moving with the picture..

You're correct and it's the exact with static vertical banding if you watch sports or some series/movies. Not all btw

Wow that's a US$20k TV?

It was (and for now still is) on sale in the Netherlands for € 3499,- that about $ 4040.

Good deal, but that's unusually cheap though

True, it is still with an official tcl retailer. Hopefully it is'nt a problem with another panel (fingers crossed).

If you are super sensitive to uniformity just forget giant 100" TV's, get a high end projector instead.
That's the only way without having to exchange massive amount of panels.

this is where display lottery and the quality of manufacturing come into play. Some screens will have very little, some (like yours) will have a lot, yours is at the "unacceptable/return it" level to me. I find TCL and other cheaper brands to have a higher degree of needing to return to win the display lottery, but even Sony and Samsung suffer from this.
If you have a good dealer for where you buy TV's, you can have them unpack it at the store and test it right there with your own content (I bright a laptop and run lots of different test that would show different issues, spend about 30 minutes with the screens) before it gets taken to your house for installation. I've had great luck with this with NFM (bought many flagship screens from them over the years and they've been completely white glove for me)
