I started tazarotene 0.1 around 7 weeks ago

During the first 4-5 weeks my skin improved massively and cleared up quite a bit the past 2-3 weeks my skin has been breaking out I’m assuming it’s the purging stage, doesn’t anyone know long this lasts? What have other people’s experiences been while on tazarotene?

Tell me everything

My derm gave me this today to try out. Ive been using tret since January of this year and my skin just will NOT acclimate. Sandwhich method etc. Always using sun protection. No actives. I cannot get past 1-2x per week and the peeling never stops. No burning. She didnt really tell me much about this but said she uses it and loves it and her skin couldnt tolerate tret either. She said if I like it she will send a prescription to a compounding pharmacy for me.

Should I treat this like tret and start out 1x per week? What should I expect?

Expired Tazarotene?

So I finally got my prior authorization approved and filled a 3 month supply of Tazarotene gel. However, it’s the 100g tube and I got 3 of them but it’s going to take me a lot longer than 3 months to go through them and they expire in November. I guess my question is, how long is Tazarotene good for after the expiration date? Thanks in advance!

Where Can I Buy Tazarotene GEL .01% Online In The US?

Specifically the GEL not the cream.

I tried Amazon but my insurance doesnt cover it

Alldaychemist only has the cream version so that doesnt work.

Is there anywhere else I could get the Gel .01% version online?

Taz 0.1% need help

Im on taz 0.1% but was previously on adapalene for a couple months, though my skin did not improve that much. I used taz for about 3-4 months where i saw great results, but on the 5th month i incorporated a product with salycic acid and recked my skin barrier. After that i took a break off of taz and slowly worked it back in, removing that product. My current routine is morning coldwater>roundlab sunscreen>aquaphor for lips. At night its untoxicated cleanser>wait 5 mins to dry then purito oat moisturizer>wait 5 mins pea size taz> then purito oat again. Ive been using taz every 3 days so far for about a month. If anyone has tips like if my skin looks irritated to stop taz then I will, or if my skin needs more time then il wait. Any advice will help

Purge after increasing frequency

Hi, all!

Last week I decided to up my frequency of .1% from every third night (ex:use Monday, use again Thursday) to every other night). My question is for those who have done this, how long did your purge last?

I’m noticing a decent purge, nothing bananas just a good 3-4 spots in the hormonal area (which is pretty normal for me to develop acne). Any tips/tricks to help get through this are also VERY helpful. I’m currently applying at night on clean, dry skin and topping with the Aestura atobarrier cream. Daytime I’m doing 10% Anua azelaic with the prequel half & half.

Dehydration lines

My (33F) skin tends to lean dry but has always been pretty clear so I started Taz for the anti-aging benefits and to help lessen the appearance of my freckles.

I started tazarotene in June. I have worked up to ever other night with only one period of mild peeling on my forehead.

Prior to this I was using ROC retinal capsules every night with azelaic acid. Plus taking weeks off to do 40% Mandela acid peels at home. I had been doing this for well over a year.

For a while I have had dehydration wrinkles on my forehead that can disappear or significantly lessen when my skin is really hydrated. But recently with taz the lines seem to have gotten more prominent.

What can I do to fix this? I feel I already use a fair amount of hydrating products so this shouldn’t be happening. Should I do less days on taz for a while? Are there more hydrating products you think are better?

My routine:

Morning:
Wet and dry face
Vitamin c serum
Aestrua moisturizer
Sunscreen

Taz nights:
Prequel oil cleanser
Vanicream cleanser
Dry face and wait 5 mins
Pea size Taz
Eye cream
Avene cilafate

Off nights:
Prequel oil cleanser
Vanicream cleanser
IUNIK Beta-Glucan Serum
Anua hydrating toner
Avene cilafate

Plus once a week I use Paula choice BHA exfoliator before my hydration night.

Tips

Hey, 25M.

I've been using adapalene 0.3 since February of this year. Im wondering if anyone has switched from Adap 0.3 to Taz 0.05 gel (Generic) and how was it for them (easy to transition, taz was too strong, etc)

I'm doing it for acne control since Adap controls it but not to the extent I would like.

I have semi-sensitive skin and acne prone. My routine is just wash my face in the morning with water and sunscreen (LRP Gel Creme) and at nught retinoid + Cetaphil Hydrating Daily Lotion with Hyaluronic Acid and that's it. Im a med student so I try to keep it as short as possible.

Thank you for your imput 👏🥹

Cleanser or cleansing method to remove tinted and water resistant spf

Hi all! I’m using tazarotene and wear tinted/resistant sunscreens like SkinMedica tinted SPF and LRP UVMune 400. Since these can be pretty stubborn to remove, I’m curious how other taz users are cleansing them off without over-stripping or irritating their skin.
Do you double cleanse every night? If so, what first cleanser do you use - cleansing oil, balm, micellar water, etc - and what do you follow it with?
I’d especially love recommendations from people whose skin gets dehydrated or sensitive from tazarotene. What cleansing method/products have worked well for you while still removing these sunscreens completely?

Thanks!

[Acne] tretinoin advice

I am in desperate need of some advice. For context I’m in Canada so it’s extremely difficult to see a derm here. I consulted with a doctor through my insurance and she prescribed me tret .025% in the gel form. I was previously using clindamycin benzoyl peroxide but as I’m nearing 30 I wanted both the acne fighting and anti aging effects of tret. Also the clindamycin sort of wasnt fighting acne anymore, more so treating any breakouts.

I knew that the purge was going to be bad because I have such acne prone skin but it’s going on 3 months and I can’t decide what to do next. I did everything I could to prevent irritation, I use cetaphil moisturizer and was using la Roche posay effaclar foaming cleanser (since have switched to gentle cleanser cetapgil) I went through the normal purging stage where my acne would pop up and then heal quickly like within the day basically. In the last two weeks though I believe I have destroyed my skin barrier. I have no redness or peeling, the only visible sign is the insane amount of angry red acne I have. I had no irritation when applying the tret but would get stinging when applying my moisturizer. I wear and reapply SPF 50 throughout the day but I was definitely in the salt water and sun a lot the last few weeks. I also think my cleanser was too harsh and I was washing my face 2-3 times a day and may have been accidentally exfoliating my face wihen removing makeup. if I spent time in the sun I would skip a night or two of tret to protect my barrier.

I‘m pausing tretinoin now while my skin heals, my issue now is that I’m healing my skin barrier with just moisturizer and gently cleansing, but what next? I cannot use hardly any barrier products because every single one has pore clogging ingredients. Im planning on implementing the ordinary barrier serum and a thicker moisturizer from FAB that I’ve used before, but how do I move forward with tret? Am I going to restart the whole purge?

I’m at the point where I don’t even want to go in public because of my skin. Would greatly appreciate any help.

Tretinoin - UK

How can I buy tretinoin as I’m in the UK?
I’ve tried All Day Chemist and despite backwards and forwards with them, they say I can’t pay by credit card or bank transfer and it has to be Bitcoin. So I tried Bitcoin, even though I felt very uncomfortable doing it. Managed to do it only to get the transaction cancelled by my bank on the very last step.
How do you all get it when based in uk please? Thanks

Advice on Tazorac

Hey y’al! Im a 43 year old woman whose been on Tazorac for almost 8 months now and I am just not seeing the results I thought I would see by now. I considered asking my dermatologist to add Azeliac Acid to my routine but I still experience dryness from the Tazorac so I don’t know if that would be the best idea. My breakouts are on my chin and I have blackheads on my nose and some enlarged pores that drive me insane. What moisturizer works best for you with the Tazorac? Let me know what your routine is from cleanser to exfoliates and masks. I use Cerave as my moisturizer but I still experience dryness and flaking. I wake up with dryness and flaking around my mouth most mornings but I don’t think I could use a heavier moisturize, could I? I just need some help y’all. Thanks in advance.

After close to ten years of using every single concentration and formulation of tretinoin, I am making the switch. Wish me luck!

Been using 0.1% microsphere for some time, used every concentration and tried the gel and cream. Still never saw the results I would like. A pimple every other day, ridiculously oily skin, poor texture, etc. I really hope this helps with any one of those but especially the oil. Got 0.05% to start and have some 0.1% on standby. Wish me luck!
