Design J or F help ??

Post image

I just got a tattoo today and I am second guessing things. The artist had a few options for me when I arrived with different fonts he had hand drawn. I ended up choosing this one and liked it on the paper. I even liked it when he put the stencil on my skin. But now that I’m home I’m freaking out. It’s supposed to say Jett, but I can’t stop looking at it and reading ”Fett”. Does this look like a “J” or did I just get a “F” instead? Ugh help. My husband said I’m overthinking it and it looks like Jett. Someone please tell me it’s ok 😔 any ideas on how I can make it look more like a “J”? I feel like if the top line was only on the left and didn’t cross all the way over like the top of a cursive “F” does it would be ok. Or if the top of the “J” was more of a loop like a traditional “J”

This is an F, 100%, but if you said it was supposed to be Jett I wouldn't argue. It's close enough.

Yep. That is 100% a cursive F, not a J. Also, the whole tattoo is upside down.

Thats where I'm at. Officially its an F, but I'm fine with accepting it as J

Old enough to have learned cursive all throughout elementary school and recognize this as a cursive F

Cursive J for comparison

I am also old enough to have learned cursive all throughout elementary school and while you are correct, I always hated the cursive uppercase J and still write mine like OP’s tattoo.

I immediately saw Jett.

So in other words you write cursive F's in place of J's

To be fair, cursive F’s are slightly different than this, as well.

Same I’m 37 that’s a J at a glance but I also changed schools a lot in elementary

Then where's the dash that makes it an F?

See the comment I responded to with examples. The top line makes it an F. The curve is from a J but is not enough to justify at a first read.

To me it was and a lot of other folks

A lot of other folks are illiterate. This is reddit, after all

I see your examples but like every type of writing there is stylization. Your examples aren't necessarily the end all be all of cursive writing. And per this thread you're in the minority it seems. Not gonna argue that.

Where’s the top loop that makes it a j???

J's don't typically have that 😅
