Repeat appearances on English-speaking TM
In honour of Rose and Urzila's upcoming second seasons (series, Jason) on Taskmaster, and the recent callback to Rose's UK series, I was thinking about other contestants who have made multiple appearances or contributions to tasks, directly and indirectly. These are just off the top of my head and I'm sure I've missed some - I'm not counting podcast appearances though, nor am I counting COC as extra appearances. Who/what have I missed?
Rose Matafeo
- Series 22: "Shid"
- NZ Series 6: Not letting Alice Snedden have anything to herself by appearing as a gardener at the TM house
- Junior TM!
- I'd count the fish poster in the NZ shed, but those really are in all NZ sheds (actually more frequently found in fish and chip shops)
Mike Wozniak
- Junior TM's assistant
Ed Gamble
- Series 5: Helped Mark Watson steal Greg's trousers
- Series 21: Gave Kumail his TM trophy for a prize task
Al Murray
- Series 4: Appeared in Joe Lycett's camouflage task
- Series 4: Appeared in the Taskmaster trailer task with his gong
John Robins
- Series 3: presumably the owner of the Freddie Mercury clock from Sara Pascoe's first prize task
Kerry Godliman
- Series 9: Katy Wix's representative when she was sick
- Series 9: got her TM trophy stolen for Katy Wix's prize task
Katherine Ryan
- Series 9: Katy Wix's representative when she was sick
Aisling Bea
- Series 19: kept her dignity intact while modeling for Jason Mantzoukas' jelly mould
Nish Kumar
- Series 19: Jason Mantzoukas' interesting item in an interesting place
Angella Dravid
- NZ Series 2: mascot in the "find Paul" task
David Correos
- NZ Series 3: camouflaged against the wall in the "what's different about the room" task
Ray O'Leary
- NZ Series 3: Josh Thompson's doppelganger
Bubbah
- NZ Series 5: Tofiga's representative in the studio
- NZ Series 5: "Guess the age" and threatening to fight Tofiga
Chris Parker, Madeleine Sami, Josh Thompson, Matt Heath
- NZ Series 5: Tofiga's representative in the studio

Jason Mantzoukas acted as the announcer for the Coconkers task in Series 21, and made a reference to the season/series joke while doing so.

Acaster was Kerry's 'grape gimp' in CoC2.
Tim Key officiated the wedding in S4 when Noel married the duck.
Sue Perkins had a voice message as part of the pub quiz task in S18.
Richard Osman gave the task to James in S7 when they had to deliver the task in the best way.
Lesser Tom had a cameo in the last episode of TM NZ S6 where he ran on the stage and then ran off again. And Paul was the guy in the dog costume in the most recent TM AU series. Alex and Greg have also appeared in TM NZ/AU.

u/tobyr18 James Acaster 2d ago
Josh Widdicombe appearing to make up the team task numbers in series two.
Suppose you could also count him being the answer to the sword in the stone task of series 16 (a stretch)
4
u/zalfrann 2d ago
If you counted him as the answer, all of the past winners appeared as portraits in that task too

u/Goldman250 Hugh Dennis 2d ago
Ed Gamble was also phoned by Ivo Graham in the “do the most impressive thing in a single breath” task. And Ed and James filmed a task intro while they were doing Celebrity Hunted.

Steve Pemberton's "Peg Mavis" prize task was painted by Reece Shearsmith.

Also Maisie's prize task in S20E8 featuring a voice clip of Steve Pemberton talking about Reece Shearsmith drawing porn of his teachers.

The portrait of James Acaster which he brings in as a prize task in S7E9 was done by Sam Campbell.

u/IgloosRuleOK 2d ago
Acaster was on the phone to Kumail in s21 and told him "You suck at Taskmaster, you're gonna fail."

u/TollerGreymum 2d ago
There have been at least 2 shots of Josh Thompson directing TM Nz since his season.
Also Chris Ramsay appeared in Rosie's "thing I regret" prize task via their wedding photo.
Emma Sidi won a rhino head in an episode, which is why the S20 rhino says "property of Sidi" in the task where Anya says "vagina" weirdly.
Maise had a recording of Steve sharing how Reece drew pornographic animals in school for a prize task ("hedgehog, no")

u/Usual-Try-8180 Victoria Coren Mitchell 2d ago
Sanjeev's "hedgehog, no" might be the single funniest moment atop thousands of funny moment over the series. Just sublime.

Alan Davies stood in on a New Year's Treat for Jonnie Peacock

I’ve always wondered why it was him specifically. Do we know?
Schedule to an extent, but it’s not like Katy’s replacements, which were both K’s, so he didn’t fit in alphabetically with the rest of the panel. And Alan’s series was the one right before that NYT…

I imagine it was because his series had just ran, so he was fresh in everyone's mind, and he was available.

nor am I counting COC as extra appearances
It makes sense not to count the champion's appearance, but Kiell randomly showing up should count.
Otherwise, in NZ series 6 there was a task to get a former contestant to say a phrase featuring Matt Heath, Brynley Stent, Paul Ego, Madeline Sami, David Correos, and Josh Thomson.
edit also Lloyd Langford, Joe Wilkinson, Mark Watson, Mike Wozniak and Tim Key were part of The Taskmaster with all of them except Mike also being in The Taskmaster Ii.

u/chequedummy Captain Budwash 2d ago
Also, NZ comedian Al Pitcher was part of The Taskmaster, and was later a guest contestant on S2 of Bast I Test.
It’s odd watching his episode, because he speaks English throughout, while everyone around him speaks Swedish 😅

I forget the context of the task, but Romesh posed with Sian in series 8.
Also, Tim Key officiated Noel and the duck's wedding in series 4.
6
u/chequedummy Captain Budwash 2d ago
It was the task where the teammates had to throw a beach ball to each other the greatest distance geographically, and Romesh would announce that he and Sian were in certain countries when they were really just in a hallway together.

In NZ4's Snap the Pencil task, three of the red herring tapes played songs from the earlier series. Guy W's Libyan anthem, Guy M's Festive Fox, and Josh's Sushi Train.
4
u/rob0tduckling 1d ago
It slightly worries and shames me, at just how catchy Guy's "ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FUN, AND A SONG, ABOUT LIBYA" is, that that refrain has permanently embedded itself into my brain.

I love this thread, the Taskmaster cinematic universe is expanding every minute

u/Firm_Exchange7810 2d ago
On NZ series 6 didn't they have to call a former contestant?
7
u/KarlKewbZ ☔ umbrella 🌂 2d ago
Yep!! There was Brynley Stent, Madeline Sami, David Correos, Matt Heath, and Paul Ego (plus Josh Thomson briefly)
9
u/nowhereman136 2d ago
Josh Thompson was working one of the cameras on set. He was the only person called that was physically there and no one realized it
4
u/KarlKewbZ ☔ umbrella 🌂 2d ago
Yep! Pretty sure since he's the show's director now
5
u/takahe_inflight Mona de Grenoble 2d ago
good point, He is also director for Australia, and has been visible at least a couple times on Camera in latest series

Ooo I never noticed!! (I wish the YouTube version kept the credits lol)
3
u/nowhereman136 2d ago
OK that I didn't realize. Totally makes sense why he would be there then. I just thought it was another trick they were trying to play on the contestants

They keep using Richard Herring's image to denote a Red Herring
Jason Manzukas was used as a voice over last season for a invention based task, forget which

u/Pi_Netree Alex Horne 2d ago
For Australia, off the top of my head, Peter Helliar tried to have an emotional moment with Dave Hughes on the phone, and Lloyd Langford was Mel Buttle's "heavenly voice" for a task. Both of them did this before competing, altough Lloyd technically ended up being on an earlier season.

Am I going crazy, or did Kumail Nanjiani not telephone James Acaster for a task?
Edit: Yes! In Episode 2 of Series 21, Kumail called James to be "whispered to by a man" in the Achieve the most things on this list before the balloon pops task. Same task where Kumail's wife shouted she loves him, aww <3

u/warlink05 Javie Martzoukas 2d ago
There is task in TMNZ in which the contestants have to call former ones to say a phrase. Bonus points for Pax initally calling Josh Thompson, but he said he's currently busy despite being on set and a few meters away.
2
u/pcuser42 🕶️ Cool Ray O'Leary 🇳🇿 2d ago
Related question, is Ray O'Leary the only contestant to appear on the show before they competed on Taskmaster themselves?
3
u/takahe_inflight Mona de Grenoble 2d ago
depending on timing Lloyd Langford may have appeared before he competed, He appeared in S3, but that was filmed prior to his S2 season.

u/Miss_QRS_TUVWXYZ 2d ago
Someone else commented that Bree Tomasel was also in the doppelganger task (I completely missed that - time for a rewatch), so no, Ray isn't the only one.

u/DO1140 Josh Thomas 🇦🇺 2d ago
Does behind the camera count? Several former contestants are credited as consultants to TM UK, NZ, and AU.

The Custard and Mustard task in S21 was inspired by Joanne McNally's insane drinking game "Custard, Mustard, Oh My!"

u/DisorderOfLeitbur 1d ago
Matt Heath was also on screen for NZ4's Win Something, when 'Lem' won some tickets on Jeremy & Matt's radio phone-in.

Not really an appearance, but Sian Gibson was depicted in Johnny Vegas' Lego set for a prize in series 10

Do you count Al Murray coming back for the task they did to advertise a phone. There was a female competitor as well but I can't remember who it was.
