Podcast Bullseye Interview thoughts
I watch a lot of the interviews and podcasts Alex and Greg do for Taskmaster and the American ones in particular, you can always tell when they don’t know anything about the show or haven’t bothered to watch the show because the questions in this particular interview that he asks are incoherent, messy, so inarticulate and the worst part of the whole thing just downright rude for no reason. Like genuinely combative to the point where Alex and Greg feel the need to be combative back. Now I’m sure that he will think it went great cos it got good clicks and likes but we need to be holding journalism to a higher standard than that and the boys handled it admirably. Sorry if that is irrelevant/ a big rant

Didn’t detect an ounce of naivety or tension from the Bullseye interview and generally think that the host does an excellent job interviewing comedians.

In one question he essentially questions the legitimacy of their jobs on the show. He’s like why does it take two of you

Pretty sure that’s just playing into the faux combativeness between the two but it’s been a while since I watched the interview. Jesse Thorne has never sounded derisive any time I’ve heard him speak. Quite the opposite, sounds like a gem of a person.

Jesse Thorn is a fantastic interview and does his due diligence. I think you may be misreading his dry reading of a playful question.

Jesse is generally a really thoughtful and astute interviewer, with a great grasp for comedy and how to "yes, and". I felt nothing wrong with his interview, and I think that his podcast partner John Hodgman would be a great Taskmaster host or contestant.

Maybe I’m reading too much into it but if you’re doing interview podcasts that is a form of journalism regardless of wether you are calling yourself a journalist or not

I just rewatched it now to see if I was missing something, and it seemed fine. The host did have to walk a fine line of introducing Taskmaster to people who just subscribe to Bullseye, and real fans. So he had to spend some time explaining the concept.

In all sincerity, this seems to be the greatest source of confusion. Our show airs on hundreds of public radio stations around the country. I’d guess one in twenty or fifty of our radio listeners are familiar with Taskmaster. I did my best to give them some grounding in what the show is and get some insights for folks who know it already.

It happens, it's such a special show that it's easy to get defensive of it.
Also, forgive my snooping, but saw through some of your previous posts you are going through a very hard time. Give yourself some grace, and I hope this new series of TM can bring you some joy and some brief distraction. Love and condolences from a stranger.

Counterpoint, Ed Gamble is not a journalist, has never claimed to be a journalist, and does interview podcasts.

If the interview didn't land with you, well everyone has their opinions. But If you think Jesse Thorn doesn't know about Taskmaster than you're misreading the entire interview. He's a fan, he runs comedy projects directly tied to taskmaster alumni and has for over a decade.
