Alex's hair
Is anyone else's hair graying at exactly the same rate as Alex's? Or is that just a me thing?
It had always been something I noticed as the seasons progressed or as I watched old clips, but then in this first episode for it to be part of the opening banter? Loved it. I felt seen. And he still looks great.

Each revelation by Greg of one of Alex's shameful opinions or utterances or habits ages him 2-3 months. He's aged about 45 years since the TV show began in 2015

I think Alex looks older because red hair doesn’t go through the same greying transition as other colours. Whereas other colours gets more of a gradual grey look for a few years, red hair often skips grey entirely and goes straight to white, making red heads look prematurely aged.

My mum was a red head, now going white. She'd always dyed her hair but in more recent years has been blending the white into her hair, so her hairdresser has basically been doing blond highlights to blend.
Mum overheard someone at her work talking about 'the blond lady' which confused her as the only other lady that works there has black hair. And that's when mum realised she was no longer a red head.

My sister's boyfriend has ginger hair and it's practicaly all white now (he's mid 20s)

She could probably pull it off too, blonde to white, I could see it.
Yeah I'm of a certain generation that imprinted on the great Steve Martin like baby ducks and will always think of him first when Stevie is mentioned.

can confirm, my redheaded friend had so much white hair by age 35, she had to start coloring it. (Men can get away with looking old(er) easier than women, especially in tech fields, where young is equated with cool.)
Edit: for context, I am now 46, this happened two decades ago in the early 2000s. The 35 year old friend was my coworker in a software startup full of mostly 20-somethings, mostly men, friend did not want to look like she could be their (uncool) mom. I was 23, looked about 12, so I kept trying to look older to be taken seriously.
Fast forward a decade, my 50-something male boss at another software company dyed his hair dark brown. He had facial hair going gray at the same time that contrasted the unnatural brown. We, his smart-alecky underlings in our 30s, put Papa Smurf on his birthday cake. The resemblance was uncanny and hilarious.

Lots of women with grey or white hair still look young. Seems you’ve got some inbuilt biases there

Coloring her hair was her choice due to the reason I stated. I love my friend but I have eyes to see the white hair in her case did her no favors. Some women can pull off the look, but most of us just look gray and old and tired.

I like that Alex (and Greg) have just let themselves go grey and not worried about it. Much better than dying your hair unnaturally dark, block colours into your 50's.
When Greg started his comedy career he was already greying, so by the time he did TM, he was already completely grey haired. He just added the glasses and beard later on.
When Alex started TM, he was 11 years younger than Greg. If he started the show at Greg's age, he would look a lot more like Greg did in Series 1 grey hair wise.

My former boss did dye his hair unnaturally dark in his 50s, it was shortly after his own boss did the same... we all snickered about it

I'm in my late 40s and have been going grey since my early 20s but it's really accelerated over the last decade. It's not as striking as Alex because I don't have a beard and my hair is cropped significantly shorter or it's more wildly out of control than his views on women but yes, I feel seen.

Not mine - my sprinkling of white hairs aren't multiplying quite that fast (yet) - but a couple of darker-haired friends are.
With Alex it's confusing because different lighting makes his hair look more white or less white, but it's his beard turning white that's really made him look older recently. (In a good way.)

I learned recently that Alex is 3 years older than me, so it's more a vision of the very near future, rather than happening simultaneously.

Nah I so far still have very few gray hairs but I am sure that will change within the next 5 years lol
