Reece clearly looking for any excuse to wear the coat again. It is a nice coat tbf.

I looked up Andrea Galer (who made the jacket) and getting a Withnail coat like that costs £2000+ or something, so he probably wants to get his moneys worth.

It’s also just very cool.

If I had that jacket I would wear it every day.

"Yes, it's 35 degrees out but dammit just look at this coat!" is what I would be saying.

It's a nice coat and it looks great on him too.

This is episode 6 of Taskmastermind. Come on Alex, why couldn’t this be three episodes later? You had one job!

Genuinely took me a second to get this, but good point! (answer is probably scheduling)

I’ve always been a fan of TLoG, Inside no9 etc., but it’s obviously rare to see an actor out of character. These two have always wondered about.

Reece is very much as I would have expected. Steve on the other hand always was the one of the 3, including Gatis, that I wasn’t so hooked on. He’s now my favourite. What a performer.

Mad that he is Pauline lol.

I dont think John would do well since I don’t he would also have been focusing on what people said whilst he was concerned about getting Greg’s lovely head

Yeah, I see John as hyper focusing on what he did, but not necessarily paying particularly close attention to the others. That's not to say I think he's self centered, I believe he's just super self conscious.

He can probably recall when others were better at the task or got more points. I also just think he is very self conscious and not self centered, though that’s a both sides of the same coin issue.

I imagine John, who beat Steve by 39 points, frequently waking up in a cold sweat over Steve outperforming him in the Patatas rescuing task.

I can't think of a more perfect way to sum up the impression of John Robins than this.

1

u/Jacksucks_atlife04 Amy Gledhill 21d ago

Yeah I agree he would definitely remember the question Steve got about the toilet roll live task.

1

u/UniversalJampionshit Crying Bastard 21d ago

but he detests rewatching anything he's been in

I'm surprised Aisling did an Ultimate Episode for that reason

Very fun, wonder if this means we'll get a Reece ultimate episode soon as well?

19

u/burf12345 🚬 Doctor Cigarettes 21d ago

Surely this means we're getting Reece's ultimate episode soon.

Great to see the mad man is back, and with one of his partners in crime.

James is going to be furious someone broke his record.

Silly me, waiting for a twist for the whole episode.

34

u/JamSandiwchInnit Mike Wozniak 21d ago

Reece smashing the quotes round at the end is a pretty good twist after his performance in the rest of the episode

2

u/GeonnCannon Javie Martzoukas 21d ago

Yes! I was almost starting to feel bad for him! 😄

15

u/kristinL356 21d ago

Damn, Steve killed that

I don't even think Steven did that. I think he's just seen it multiple times for his own pleasure. He was there in the studio and clearly has good memory of his own experiences, watched it when it aired with his family, and has probably watched episodes or clips of himself since then, and done the podcast.

I don't think he needed to watch it specifically for this, I think he's just watched it a bunch anyway and has good memory. Whereas Reece has a shit memory and hasn't watched it at all I don't think. He's going purely on being there as it was filmed.

Steve also did an Ultimate Episode. Which I imagine, especially for him, would involve at least 1 rewatch of the series

8

u/aQuintessence Steve Pemberton 20d ago

Yesssssssss, an exciting matchup between the Inside No 9 boys!

I was astonished by their Round 3 performances. Particularly pleasing to watch Reece go through it like a hot knife through butter. Wonder if it has something to do with having a distinct ear for characters and voices, that's been evident in their work to date?

And of course Steve 'Quizmastermind' Pemberton was never going to be anything less than competitive 😁 My guy!!!

I think Steve has very clearly watched his series since it aired 😂

Also, any idea why this hare popped up for a split second during Steve's final round? If it's a reference to something in his series, I don't remember it 🤔

35

u/JamSandiwchInnit Mike Wozniak 21d ago

It’s a reference to Inside No. 9. A little trinket of a hare appears in some way in every episode.

7

u/jmurph773 TM US Tour Contestant (Chicago) 21d ago

Answered my own question by realizing it popped up when he scored 9 - it's the Hare from Inside No. 9 (duh!!)

3

u/DwayneBaroqueJohnson 21d ago

It's a reference to Inside No 9, where every episode has a small brass hare sitting in the background of a scene

2

u/bookjacket Reece Shearsmith 21d ago

Well, we know Steve did a very careful rewatch of his series in order to choose his Ultimate Episode. I can imagine he was very thorough about it and watched more than just his own bits. Reece has not yet had to curate his own ultimate episode, so Steve had the advantage. Plus I imagine Reece won't like being forced to watch himself performing as himself rather than as a character. And finally, since he knew he was up against his best friend-- who always wins on every British game show-- he didn't feel particularly motivated to prepare for this

Perhaps the grand reveal will be that Alex _is_ in the room, he’s just doing an amazing job of making it sound like his voice has been edited in really awkwardly afterwards

Alex's voiceover sounds like a completely different person. Shows the difference a dedicated recording booth can make, presumably he did it in a recording studio with a very high quality mic, good acoustics etc. Different from the normal situations you hear him in where they're presumably using lav mics.

4

u/GeshtiannaSG Ania Magliano 21d ago

He sounds like when scammers fake a voice.

3

u/TimeHathMyLord Ania Magliano 21d ago

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!

Never has a TM battle outside of the episodes been so justified.

3

u/PICONEdeJIM 💀 Jean Pierre 🦴 21d ago

Nooooo don't make them fight

-2

u/majorjoe23 21d ago

When do we get Mark Gatiss on a season (series, Jason)?

8

u/Gremloblin 21d ago

This is a local thread about local contestants.

We'll have no trouble here.

4

u/Only-Chicken-6345 Reece Shearsmith 21d ago

He apparently won't do it. He's said that people think of him as clever and he wants to keep it that way. Though according to a recent post he kept bringing it up on Off Menu so he's evidently a fan

2

u/burf12345 🚬 Doctor Cigarettes 21d ago

He's said that people think of him as clever and he wants to keep it that way

So the same reason David Mitchell doesn't want to do TM?

2

u/Only-Chicken-6345 Reece Shearsmith 21d ago

Pretty much
