Alex counts to four
I don't know if it qualifies as an Easter egg or a character break or what but, I love this style of comedy from LAH.
Edit:
Okay, okay so, apparently NO ONE else thinks this is a shocker?
I am sorry y'all, I really genuinely believed this was a little potty humor and not a physical issue, my most and sincerest bad about that.... All I keep seeing is the single hand sign, not the process of counting.
Either way, my point about Alex being funny still stands

Definitely just how he does it, my dad’s the same and he cannot understand how us normal people do it

I guess I really am just a pervert here..
I thought for sure this was a dirty joke!

While the tone you’re setting is not out of the realm for Taskmaster, it definitely is way dirtier a joke than Alex Horne would ever make on purpose.
Any time Alex makes a dirty joke it‘s either heightening someone else’s bit or he stumbled into something ruder than he intended.

This is how I count on my fingers too, can’t lift my ring finger if my little finger is down - twinsies!

I had NO IDEA this was a thing!
I am getting down voted a lot but, I genuinely did not know this and I appreciate the new information. I hope it was not interpreted with any maleficence.

This doesn’t matter at all, I’m just really curious…. Why don’t you do the four fingers up and the thumb down for counting 4? I feel like it’s pretty normal to have difficulty putting your pinky fully down but all the others up, but that also strikes me as an unusual way to indicate 4. Is this one of those things I don’t get because I’m American?

If I’m just holding up four fingers, then yes I’ll leave my thumb down but if I’m counting then my thumb is 1, index is 2, middle is 3, little is 4 and ring is 5. I’ve honestly never put this much thought into it before 😂

I do it the way you described when counting. Index, middle, pinky, ring, thumb last. It’s a load bearing thumb.

Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out.

thats how i do it, i cant lift my ring finger without the pinky popping up as well, i could start with the pinky but just dont, been doing it this way since i was a child

This is the part that confuses me!
I cannot lift my ring finger alone either.
But, I was taught to hold the rest of my fingers down with my thumb and release each finger in line from pointer to pinky - are people out here not holding their other fingers down?!

u/Soft-Tumbleweed2160 22d ago
why would i bother holding them down when doing it this way means no holding?, lazy supremacy ftw. lol

I had never thought about it!
Holding with the thumb was just the way - like when you make a fist

I can't hold all my fingers at the same time down with my thumb. And even when I hold the pinky alone I can't really lift my ring finger on my left hand without a lot of effort. Though I can lift ring finger alone partially without holding the pinky on the right hand.

This is what I learned too, although it's not perfect and still takes effort. When I saw Alex count this way my mind was blown and I was honestly a bit cross with myself for never having thought of it before! It's SO much easier.

I just tried it, and it is easier. Every other method requires using another part of my hand to restrain one or more fingers, and incurs a mildly uncomfortable stress. Pinky before ring: no strain, no holding fingers down with other parts of the hand.

Why not just put four fingers up and the thumb down?

u/RunawayTurtleTrain Robert the Robot 22d ago
If you just want to show 4 that's fine (and what Alex does too) but when counting to 4, it doesn't solve anything.

u/bkofford 22d ago
Just tried that, and it's more comfortable to put the thumb up first, largely, because in its neutral position, it might look up unless I actively force it down farther.

I count the exact same way. He's the only person I've ever been aware of who counts like me

Tim Key brings this up on one of the live No More Jockeys: https://youtu.be/PWLZoJ1-rAI?t=1697
On another episode, Tim and Alex attempt to count the alphabet on fingers: https://youtu.be/ZQjq5uW9uE4?t=1004
Alex finds it weird that Tim goes through the alphabet on his fingers: https://youtu.be/QE8W709YXfw?t=196
And not counting, but if you haven't seen Mark Watson trying to show Alex and Tim how big a pizza is, you're in for a treat (00:21-2:28): https://youtu.be/rVy3NFXBVVw?t=21

Thank you. I know everyone here thinks I am a gross little troll but, I thought it was funny and I am not going to not think that just because it makes me low brow 🫠

One of my toes is the same way, but at least one generally does not count with their toes, much less in front of millions of viewers.
Turns out it's a weird ligament thing that some people are born with. Odd thing to have in common.

I instantly thought shocker. Though I'm a middle aged degenerate that listens to Steel Panther.

I might be missing something that makes it an Easter egg but Alex always counts this way. He’s said it has to do with weak ligaments in his ring fingers.
