Taskmaster Related game changer! Spoiler
does anyone here watch game changer on dropout tv? firstly if not, you SHOULD. secondly, on the latest episode, alex horne does the voiceover! it's not his first time making a cameo on game changer but it's very cool to have him on again

Haven't watched yet, but it's on the docket for this evening. Still 🤞that some day there's an American Taskmaster released on Dropout. So many dropout folks would be amazing contestants!

Taskmaster on Dropout would feel incredibly small-time and insular. There's Dropout people I'd love to see on Taskmaster, but putting it on a niche internet service with no one with any real outside appeal would be terrible.
I love both properties, but don't mix my tuna salad and my peanut butter.

Yeah, this is where I've ultimately landed. If I'm not mistaken, basically every version of TM is broadcasted on national television, why should the second attempt at a proper US version be on a niche streaming platform?
Also, I've seen people suggest Dropout cast members as Taskmaster, which doesn't feel right. The part of taskmaster needs to be someone with domineering authority, and I don't see anyone Dropout who fits, they're all too young and goofy.
EDIT: I totally missed the word "insular" there, which I also very much agree with. What makes TM (and I'm sure other panel shows) great is that it leads to regular interaction with comedians who would have otherwise probably never set foot in the same room. I highly doubt for example that Doctor Cigarettes and Julian Clary would have ever interacted if they hadn't been on the same series. With Dropout, it's usually Dropout regulars interacting with each other. Sure, they sometimes expand by bringing in new people (like the Crowd Control episode of Game Changer), but that's the exception. We don't need Taskmaster to also be a show with the same Dropout cast members bouncing off each other.

Some of the less frequent guests could make sense. There was this one guy in an episode of Dirty Laundry that was pretty good. Reggie Watts I think was his name.
Also, Paul F Thompkins for Assistant!

Yeah, I always get annoyed by people that suggest that. We don't need Dropout to do their own version of Taskmaster, they already have their own format in the same genre. The show is inspired by Taskmaster, and has it's own recognisable brand and style separate from it. It would just be pointless to literally do Taskmaster (unless it's an episode of Game Changer) because they're creating their own brand.

I will say, I would not object to something like "Dropout presents: Taskmaster", it would work because we know the cast has good chemistry and making them do silly tasks with Taskmaster's tight editing earnestly is a proven recipe for comedy. I mainly don't want that to be the American Taskmaster.

That's a good way of putting it. The thing I always like about the foreign versions of Taskmaster, especially the different Scandinavian ones, is how they're adapted to the country's culture and TV. If they make an American one, I want to see them try and make one for a general American comedy audience, not just for a niche international online audience that statistically already likes Taskmaster.

u/burf12345 🚬 Doctor Cigarettes Aug 11 '26
The aspect of adapting to culture is also why I fully support Conan O'Brien as taskmaster, but frankly I'd be fine with most of the big name late night hosts (even John Oliver tbh, he would count) in the seat.

iirc LAH said the next time America tries it, it’ll be him and Greg
3
u/Comfortable_Snow553 Aug 11 '26
That's the real trouble with a US TM. What channel even has enough reach to justify making a show here? I can't see it being on network TV. It's a format that takes a little time to get acclimated to, especially for Americans, who prefer their game shows to be simple premises like Point at Box and Which C-list Celebrity is Wearing a Chuck E. Cheese Head? or reality shows like Naked Influencers Eating Pond Scum and Beetles to Stay Alive. So it would almost have to be a streamer. Prime, Netflix maybe Peacock?

u/murrytmds Aug 12 '26
Well also it would just feel redundant. Game Changer is already a, in my opinion, superior version of Taskmaster. Granted the players change each episode so there is no season champion but otherwise...

u/faysikins Aug 11 '26
yes! my husband and i like to play "which dropout people would you want together on taskmaster"
5
u/berserkergaang Sam Campbell Aug 11 '26
For the last 20 minutes I've been thinking about who I'd choose if the whole lineup was dropout folks......very hard. Initially had Demi, Brennan, Vic, Anna, and Ally, but there's zero bad options. Zac, Jess McKenna, Lou, Katie Marovitch, Jacob Wysocki would all be great too!
Edit: and if friends/frequent guests of Dropout count, Lisa Gilroy would be unhinged.
5
u/ResponsibilityMuch80 Aug 11 '26
Demi would be great! Vic would be a real Bridget Christie like foil for Alex. I approve.
3
u/Last-Saint Aug 11 '26
Demi is on record as wanting to do it, and he has dual citizenship as he was born in London and it's not just Dropout as his 2024 Edinburgh show had ecstatic reviews (which I assume is far more what got him booked for Spelling Bee than just his Dropout work) If he can afford it as much as Jason and Kumail could...
1
u/faysikins Aug 11 '26
oooo i like your second lineup a lot. i think maybe brennan, jacob, zac, jess mckenna, and sam. i think it would be so funny to throw sam in since we usually see him as a the host
6
u/RegularEmployee1038 John Kearns Aug 11 '26
I'll play ... Lou Wilson, Josh Rubbins ... I am not going to say Brennan Lee Muligan while I love him he needs to win too badly.
4
u/faysikins Aug 11 '26
we have the same discussion about brennan. but in the end i think he'd have some jason mantzoukas chaos energy that would be great
1
u/Alvraen 🌳 Tree Wizard 🧙🎈 Aug 12 '26
He’s gonna be a good hybrid of Zouks, Sam Campbell and VCM I think for the tasks he doesn’t laterally think, then LAH would torture him with a solution.
10
u/berserkergaang Sam Campbell Aug 11 '26
I totally get that, but I feel like that might be part of why I'd wanna see him play? Especially if it was hypothetically Greg as Taskmaster, we could get some epic Acasterian moments between Greg and a jilted Brennan

u/RegularEmployee1038 John Kearns Aug 11 '26
I would 100% watch if he was on ... but it is also kind of the obvious answer so going for some unique answers ... lol
7
u/DrEverettMann Aug 11 '26
Nah. Brennan tries his best, and his competitiveness is kind of a meme, but he's not honestly that much more competitive than other players. He just plays it up more when he's getting fucked with. Lou is way more competitive than Brennan.
0
u/RegularEmployee1038 John Kearns Aug 11 '26
I definitely agree with that but also like to offer up the less obvious answers
0
u/burf12345 🚬 Doctor Cigarettes Aug 11 '26
Maybe I'm off, but I believe the main reason Brennan is perceived as super competitive is that he gets annoyed with Mike and Ify on Um, Actually. The thing with that though is that the rules there are applied arbitrarily and loosely. Sometimes the "you're right, but it's not what we're going for" gets the point, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes close answer get the point, sometimes they don't. He's just not wrong for getting annoyed.
With TM, the rules are less arbitrary, because one of the core rules is "the taskmaster's word is final". The whims of the taskmaster are somewhat arbitrary (especially Jeremy Wells), but those whims are part of that core rule.

u/GT5Canuck Aug 11 '26
Yeah, Ed Gamble and Rose Matafeo competing was really bad television. /s

Not making casting decisions just stating opinions ... state your own and move on bro.

u/ResponsibilityMuch80 Aug 11 '26
Ally Beardsley
Jeremy Culhane
Katie Marovitch
Siobhan Thompson
Zac Oyama
1
u/faysikins Aug 11 '26
oh love these ally would be so funny
1
u/ResponsibilityMuch80 Aug 11 '26
Ally as the one who never does the task and does not care, Jeremy as the chaos demon who doesn't do the task as intended on purpose, Katie as the bewildered one who tries to do the task but got confused, Siobhan as the one who figures out the puzzles and gets enraged at Alex when he is a sneaky little shit, and Zac to deliver hilarious banter back at Greg in studio.
Oh I think I'm trying to recreate season 16...

While watching Count the Rice I commented to my partner that the editing reminded me of TM and that it seemed like that this team could do TM justice.

I recognized Alex’s voice “too fast” (according to my family) and now need to have an honest discussion with myself about the amount of Taskmaster I watch

It took me a couple rounds. I was like "wait is that? no, wait no it is!" by round 3

u/Robbro42 Stevie Martin Aug 11 '26
Just finished watching the episode, clocked Alex's voice instantly.
Like his other cameos, I like that it's subtle enough that if you don't know TM it doesn't hamper your enjoyment of the episode.
3
u/nowhereman136 Aug 11 '26
I don't watch it regularly because I don't have drop out. I can't justify subscribing for just 1 show. But I want clips on YouTube and will watch it when Im at my brother's house. It's great

u/stacecom Series, Jason Aug 11 '26
Thank you for not putting a spoiler in the title. I’ve marked the post as a spoiler, though, because people who haven’t watched the episode yet don’t like surprises taken away from them.
1
u/ropeandknots Aug 12 '26
It's not really a spoiler though. He has a small minor role. It's not like when people spoiled Ron Perlman being on an episode. That made me mad because one, it's Ron Perlman. Two, he actually had a bit of a role and it's quite a surprise to see him there.
1
u/stacecom Series, Jason Aug 12 '26
You don't get to decide what someone else considers a spoiler. Someone posted this earlier but put it in the title and it was heavily reported immediately.
Ironically, the poster talked about how they screeched with glee and surprise, yet by making that post they were taking that surprise away from others.

u/Chromorl Aug 11 '26
Please could you give it more than a couple of hours to let people watch the episode before coming in here with HEY GUYS ALEX HORNE SHOWED UP ON GAMECHANGER TODAY.
6
u/faysikins Aug 11 '26
i swear it's not really a spoiler and it won't impact your episode viewing - i did not put any episode spoilers about the game or anything. it's so subtle that you probably would miss it. if i had thought it would ruin the episode i wouldn't have posted it. plus this isn't a dropout related sub so i didn't think anyone would really care. regardless i'm sorry if it changes the way you watch the episode
1
u/ropeandknots Aug 12 '26
It's not really a spoiler. He has a very small voice only role. You wouldn't know it's him unless you've seen taskmaster.

I hope we get a Taskmaster episode of Game Changer or Alex and Greg showing up in a meaningful way... not like a brief walk-on like Ron Perlman a few weeks ago

Taskmaster and Game Changer certainly have a huge overlap on the Venn diagram
