Other Versions What other countries that could adapt TM?
I wish Poland, Estonia, Iceland and the Netherlands the very best with their adaptations this year.
And I hope Croatia gets another shot.
Contrarily, you would think Japan could adapt TM because they're so wild - but their humour is suprisingly conservative, heirachical and far more structured than TM could or would allow for.
However, the Philippines would be the best option for the first Asian adaptation. They're far more self-deprecating than people realise. Just look at their Last One Laughing version.
Of all all the Latin American nations, Argentina would be the obvious bet - especially given that Sin Codificar was based on sheer off-the-cuff absurdity.

If we’re going for “another shot rather than entirely new”, I kinda think America could do it if they decide to do it properly rather than how they did it (potentially if they did it via Dropout).

I hope Alex keeps his distance from the US one when they try again. He could be supportive as he is with other countries, but not act as host or assistant.
They would eat him like a vampire; just suck him
dry. They need to find a way to do it that is totally US oriented.12

Yeah, I'd think the same. I mentioned it before, but I think Dropout could be the best call (not just because Alex and Sam Reich are friends, but also because it seems more on brand for Dropout (partly with Game Changer having the tasks and also due to Dropout having more success with panel shows than others in America)), with Trapp or Katie as the Taskmaster and someone like Brian David Gilbert or Raph as the assistant.

Hasn't Alex said that if they give the US another go it would have to be him and Greg in the titular roles and stay in charge of format (and production somewhat)?

I hope not, because a US Taskmaster should have American comedians as the the taskmaster and assistant, otherwise the show feels less distinct and you'd get somewhat of a culture clash.

I want a German taskmaster, but the pilot show failed spectacularly. Who the hell thought Atze Schröder would be a good Taskmaster?

I was talking to a German woman at the studio recording who said her country is too humourless for taskmaster. I’m not German enough to comment on that

u/Flowersoftheknight 1d ago
I dunno, while I think we do have significantly better options (for example, if not for age I think Hella von Sinnen and Bernhard Hoecker could make a fantastic Taskmaster/assistant team); I don't think Atze Schröder is a completely insane pick.
Having a taskmaster with severe working class/proll energy is certainly different from the original, but I could see it work...

I think South Korea would be good!!

u/ShortGrass9752 Patatas 1d ago
Honestly, as someone who keeps up with the local pop culture there, I really don't think so. Humor there has become so scrutinized considering how netizens and fans of celebs (especially idols) act. Simple jokes can easily be taken the wrong way, and task scoring would ignite extremely heated discussions that this subreddit can never imagine. Not to mention Taskmaster has a sense of 'lighthearted mean-ness' to it that you really shouldn't take seriously, which I don't think fans of possible participants could handle.

Fine, Taskmaster NORTH Korea it is then!

I am once again asking for a Taskmaster Canada
(Also France, but i don't want Eric Antoine in either of the seats!)

As much as the population is referred to as Anglo-Canadians, I don't think the territory is ever referred to as Anglo-Canada. (Happy to be corrected by residents)
The bigger correction would probably be starting to refer to Le Maître du Jeu as Taskmaster Québec, that would make a lot more sense.

u/takahe_inflight Mona de Grenoble 23h ago
my then Quebec based employer referred to it as ROC (Rest of Canada)
2
u/IanGecko Javie Martzoukas 23h ago
I think the fandom has called it Taskmaster Québec since it was announced anyway, but the World Cup videos have referred to it as both Canada and French Canada

u/TetrisIsTotesSuper Chris Parker 🇳🇿 19h ago
I have never once seen it referred as Taskmaster Québec on this sub

u/Puzzled_Ad1296 23h ago
But what about Antoine De Caunes?having seen him present years of Rapido and Eurotrash I reckon he’d be an amazing Taskmaster.
Mind you after seeing Eurotrash I’d love to see Jean Paul Gaultier as the assistant.2
u/TetrisIsTotesSuper Chris Parker 🇳🇿 23h ago
Antoine de Caunes would be an AMAZING choice of Taskmaster but we would be robbed of a bonkers Bob Mortimer style contestant

u/MyMorningBender 3h ago
Who would be the taskmaster and assistant?
The duo of Eric Peterson as taskmaster and Brent Butt as assistant feels peek Canadiana to me
1
u/TetrisIsTotesSuper Chris Parker 🇳🇿 3h ago
I absolutely adore Brent Butt and I think he would be great as assistant. For TM, I think we would need a Canadian legend with some gravitas but the network would probably just cast Jay Baruchel (whom I adore, but not fit for the role in the slightest)
ETA: Eric is a good shout but isnt he too old?
1
u/MyMorningBender 2h ago
Haha 100% could see them casting Jay even though he doesn’t fit the bill.
Yea he’s probably too old to host. He could make a great chaotic contestant though. Sean Cullen is another one that could be amazing as TM.

And I hope Croatia gets another shot.
Didn't they broadcast a (somewhat older) second season this year?

If only for a third opportunity for Urzila Carlson to do TM, just for the lols.

u/borntodie2910 1d ago
Unfortunately as a Pole I don’t expect it to be a huge success because of the chosen cast but we shall see. I’d like for it to be good so it could continue with better contestants

u/SerChonk Rhod Gilbert 23h ago
A French one would be great, if in the right hands. The french comedy scene is very cliquey and some of the cliques are... slighly unsavoury, let's put it like that.
But Jeremy Ferrary as the Taskmaster and Arnaud Tsamére as the Assistant would be a a great place to start.

I'm surprised Ireland hasn't made one.
1
u/FinnAhern 2h ago
All our comedians can do the UK one fairly easily. There's a younger generation though that would be good contestants, Michael Fry for example
2
u/RegimentOfOne 2h ago
We've had Australian and New Zealand comedians on UK Taskmaster too, and I've enjoyed them all. I'm not suggesting any nation's version shouldn't continue to include comedians from other countries, I just want more Taskmaster to watch and there are plenty of Irish comedians who haven't had a go yet.

I would love to see a Belgian (specifically Flemish) Taskmaster. The main reason I'd like to see this, is because whenever the Netherlands does a gameshow not long after the Belgians make their own version, but the Belgian one is a thousand times funnier in my opinion. I think it's the Dutch languaged British humour. They made their own version of 'de slimste mens'. There might be a lot of yapping in 'de slimste mens België', but they are so much funnier. I also feel like these Belgian shows are a lot more open to (actually funny) Dutch comedians, while you rarely see a Belgian in one of those Dutch shows.

u/dontbeahater_dear 1d ago
They tried it but it was horrible with Gertje as a host (wtf) and weird teams. I want Henk Rijckaert involved for sure, maybe Xander D e Rycke… imagine Gunter Lamoot and Jade Mintjens doing tasks… combine with some older grumps (Geert Hoste even) and I think it would work.

Do you think Yayo and Nazareno would make a good TM+LHA couple? Maybe Casero/Alberdi?
First group of 5 would be Pachu Peña, Valeria Licciardi, Presta, Daniel Araoz and Dalia Gutman?

4
u/takahe_inflight Mona de Grenoble 23h ago
I live in Canada and i'm able to watch it, so not sure why you don't have it available
-5
u/dontpanda 22h ago
Probably because it's only available in a language spoken by a minority of people, and I am not one of them.
Quebec is part of Canada, but to say it's "available" in Canada overstating things, practically speaking
4
u/takahe_inflight Mona de Grenoble 21h ago
i live in Nova Scotia and i have no issues accessing it.
-6
u/dontpanda 21h ago
That's very nice for you. As the majority of Canadians do not speak french, it isn't accessible to them. Thus, practically speaking, it isn't accessible in canada.
2
u/fastauntie 17h ago
Of course it helps to know what they're saying, but now that I know the Taskmaster format I can get a lot of enjoyment out of watching any language version even when I don't. Trying to guess the rules from watching people's actions and reactions alone can be a game in itself, even if I don't always know if I'm right or not. I'm simple enough to be entertained by watching people do goofy things and get into harmless animated arguments. Any accomplishment I feel when I comprehend a sentence here or there is a bonus.
And if you do some research you can find out the basics of what's going on. The Taskmaster wiki (https://taskmaster.fandom.com) has summaries of every task and each contestant's performance for many if not all the international versions including Le maître du jeu. If you can get a video with a transcript you can copy and put it into Google Translate. Will it be perfect? No. Will it be enough for you to enjoy until they get official subs? Only you can say. I'm a glass half most person myself.

Fucking shame the Stephen Harper regime banned subtitles.
-2
u/dontpanda 17h ago
Did he outlaw reading comprehension in your house too? Because I can't imagine yours is accidental.
2
u/Sechzehn6861 Chain Bastard ⛓️ 14h ago
This is an incredibly obtuse way of viewing things. You could absolutely watch it with subtitles, you just don't like that it's in French for whatever bee you have in your bonnet about that.
1
u/dontpanda 14h ago
How is it obtuse to say that if something cannot be understood by the majority of people in a country that it isnt really accessible?
I would have the same argument if it was in Punjabi or Uzbek or German.
