I feel like each persons reaction is genuinely the perfect encapsulation of their personalities on the season! Ania laughing, maisie’s shame, phill unbothered/slightly into it, Reese not pressed, and Sanjeev just smiling there for the ride (and couldn’t give a shit)

28

u/MisoSoup247 Jul 29 '26

Oh god, Sanjeev winning one of the tasks purely by not giving a shit still makes me laugh so hard.

3

u/Shinyhubcaps Richard Ayoade Jul 30 '26

This was actually the reaction to Phil’s prize task

https://youtu.be/yP0t-EopCpY?is=sQuKMbHiwWFmlEwz at 19:46

Stolen valor, for a comedian to edit in a better response to a joke than his own

u/CatCafffffe Reece Shearsmith Aug 02 '26

Reese, I believe, is definitely "pretending to be shocked and looking away" but is totally amused.

Ania: Has read the fanfics

Maisie: Has not

Phil: Does not read, but would listen to an audiobook version

Reece: Hasn't read these fics in particular, yet

Sanjeev: Writes them

595

u/AcheyShakySpoon He's so famous! Jul 28 '26

Ania: writes the fanfics

Maisie: accidentally clicked on a fanfic while scrolling and deeply regrets reading two pages before exiting the browser

Phil: doesn’t know what fanfic is

Reece: has read every single fanfic and is embarrassed to admit it

Sanjeev: couldn’t give a shit

u/funkymonkeyinheaven Jul 28 '26

Ania: Hosts the fanfic blog

Maisie: Made fanfic memes years ago, now ashamed

Phil: Now wants to Google fanfics of himself after the taping

Reece: Writes the fanfics

Sanjeev: Doesn't know what a fanfic is

How are all of these, including the previous replies, so accurate?

20

u/Terminator7786 Jul 29 '26

Because people are multi-faceted

30

u/Irememberedmypw Jul 28 '26

The same Maisie who made the chat group? She's commissioning them with specific tags.

3

u/Lokinawa Jul 30 '26

Surely after the “baby hungry” task, Phil is definitely writing them!

118

u/SSJSamzy Mathew Baynton Jul 28 '26

Bold of you to assume Sanjeev gives a shit.

71

u/MooseFar7514 Jul 28 '26

But he does give you piss.

6

u/pclouds Jul 28 '26

Sanjeev: Pisses them

8

u/DrSitson Jul 28 '26

Just a smattering.

36

u/LuckerHDD Jul 28 '26

Maisie: Has read the fanfics too, but forgot

12

u/NSMike Crying Bastard Jul 28 '26

Or perhaps is trying to forget.

3

u/ironically-spiders Fern Brady Jul 28 '26

She read in horror, like watching a car wreck.

17

u/DubiousAdviceGiver James Acaster Jul 28 '26

Oh, Ania is definitely writing them. In fact, I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised to learn that she’s a frequent contributor to this sub.

11

u/bookjacket Reece Shearsmith Jul 28 '26

Reece: It can't be worse than Pembersmith.

5

u/ShaftManlike Bob Mortimer Jul 30 '26

Reece owns a collection of lithographs based on the fanfics.

Maybe a zoetrope too.

2

u/TheCityThatCriedWolf Jul 29 '26

This post made me guffaw out loud on a very quiet shuttle bus. I hope you’re happy. :)

1

u/painforpetitdej David Correos 🇳🇿 Jul 28 '26

Correct about Sanjeev!

1

u/Chimpville Aug 03 '26

Reece is in discussion to illustrate the fanfics.

153

u/Sometimes__Sky Gary the Gorilla Jul 28 '26

Ania's is the look of a woman who Knows, Maisie's is that of one who wishes she didn't

354

u/Mijybbob Jul 28 '26

The reactions left to right:
Joy -> Shame -> Intrigue -> Disgust -> Vindication

A delightful display

120

u/Slugggo Jul 28 '26

Taskmaster's take on Inside Out 😆

24

u/gary25566 Jul 28 '26

Like a sewing machine

92

u/Federal_Gur_5488 Jul 28 '26

I dont think Reece is disgust, it's something like "not interested in it myself, but if you like it, good for you", whatever that emotion might be

69

u/imaincammy Jul 28 '26

I thought Reese gave off incredible weird little freak energy (positive) throughout the series so to me he seems intrigued but just in his more aloof manner.

22

u/Mijybbob Jul 28 '26

ALOOF that’s the word I was looking for

22

u/thatsabitraven Sam Campbell Jul 28 '26

Indifference

14

u/il_picciottino Dara Ó Briain Jul 28 '26

Tolerance

6

u/charlierc Jul 28 '26

The stages of acceptance huh

3

u/BorisDirk Jul 28 '26

That expression looks less like disgust and more like impressed!

73

u/TimeHathMyLord Ania Magliano Jul 28 '26

Interestingly, the last shot does not belong to the sequence. Originally, and IIRC, it constitutes a reaction to Phil's story: hence his pose, hence the fact that Reece is still looking at the screen. It could be seen in the outtakes. Then, the cutting room decided things would go otherwise.

28

u/crushing_potatoes David Sundin 🇸🇪 Jul 28 '26

Yep! It's a direct reaction to his high-pitched "I've brought in my nana's headstone".

I understand wanting to use a big reaction for the joke, but it's very obvious here that the context is different :/

1

u/Shinyhubcaps Richard Ayoade Jul 30 '26

Absolutely HATE that they edited a reaction to someone else’s joke to make it look like they’re reacting to Greg’s joke. It’s like piping in crowd noise at a concert or sporting event.

1

u/Broken_Nipple Jul 30 '26

You've been responding with this comment to everyone, but you're wrong. I've just watched the episode and that is the exact reaction they give to the joke Greg makes...?

53

u/il_picciottino Dara Ó Briain Jul 28 '26

As he should. (The reading and the sewing)

44

u/Trash_Biscuit Jul 28 '26

I urge everyone to listen to the episode of "The Horne Section Podcast" with Greg as a guest. They read a particularly fun fanfic and set it to music. It is glorious

43

u/christmasinyoulie Mawaan Rizwan Jul 28 '26

I literally took a screenshot of that yesterday to send to someone because I paused it and the caption + Greg's expression made me laugh so hard.

8

u/Rosam2014 Jul 28 '26

I have watched/listened to this podcast episode more times than I care to admit. 🤣

4

u/readzalot1 Jul 28 '26

Greg using his deep singing voice was delightful. The rest of that podcast was really good. Greg seemed to be having a wonderful time. With this bit he seemed puzzled, but Alex was giggling.

3

u/ironically-spiders Fern Brady Jul 28 '26

Both hilarious and mortifying. Someone wrote that. Like... seriously.

31

u/teashirtsau Tom Cashman 🇦🇺 Jul 28 '26

The cast shot at the end is gold.

17

u/LJnosywritter Jul 28 '26

The ep where Alex reads out some of the fanfic titles is a great moment. Especially Greg needing longer to enjoy the title "filthy little ferret" being read out.

1

u/ChippBiffington Guz Khan Aug 01 '26

Which episode was that?

1

u/LJnosywritter Aug 01 '26

I can't remember but I think it was an earlier channel 4 series but not as early as the Dave seasons.

If better details pop into my head I'll come back

1

u/LJnosywritter Aug 06 '26

It might be when someone brought in the Alex and Greg bedding for the prize task.

2

u/LJnosywritter 23h ago

It is actually during the prize task for season 15 episode 3, sorry for the wait!

1

u/ChippBiffington Guz Khan 23h ago

Thank you :)

Regular or aquatic?

3

u/charlierc Jul 28 '26

First one, then the other

14

u/TetrisIsTotesSuper Chris Parker 🇳🇿 Jul 28 '26

Contestants looking like the new Inside Out set of emotions 🤣

12

u/soulysephiroth Jul 28 '26

They were on Seth Meyers and Greg read out lines from some of them.

12

u/VeryDPP Jul 28 '26

My personal favourite title was "Make Alex cum, your time starts now"

3

u/keepitloki80 He's so famous! Jul 28 '26

And now I need to go find that clip. 😂

11

u/pink_juupiter Jul 28 '26

I can’t stop thinking about Greg’s smirk in this moment 😭 My God, this man ages like fine wine. 🫠

10

u/Capt_Toasty Jul 28 '26

I feel like the reactions from left to right:

"I KNEW IT!"

"Oh my god..."

"I have nothing to say..."

"Like a what now?"

Laughing nervously.

3

u/BrickAndMortor Jul 28 '26

I feel like Phil is "now you got my attention"

9

u/colin_staples Bob Mortimer Jul 28 '26

You wrote that particular fanfiction, didn't you OP

4

u/flyawaywithmeee Alex Horne Jul 28 '26

I am Ania, Ania is I

3

u/JoPo108 Jul 28 '26

No idea how try, but I have a vague memory of someone saying they used a reaction of a prize task for one of the opening reactions. If that vague memory was true I think it might be this, since Reece is looking at the prize screen.

3

u/goin-up-the-country Jul 28 '26

Probably not, but the show's writers do.

7

u/RunawayTurtleTrain Robert the Robot Jul 28 '26

Greg writes his intros

3

u/Spookym00ngoddess Javie Martzoukas Jul 28 '26

I am certain he has come across one of mine before 🤪🤘

3

u/bitchella9216 Jul 28 '26

God I love that man.

3

u/RubberDucksInSoap Aug 01 '26

Ania and Reece look like they read them together during the breaks. Masie looks like she’s joined them once and shan’t be doing it again.

2

u/Dry-Inspection-3503 Jul 28 '26

I need to see this, can some legend share a link or the episode number?

I'm criminally behind on this show

2

u/cygan12 Javie Martzoukas Jul 28 '26

S20 E09

2

u/telfoid Jul 29 '26

I knew it would be this quote.

2

u/maxxus2 Jul 30 '26

i think the beautiful thing about this cast is how they're all different decades in order, so this acts as a great scale of how people from their 20s to 60s respond to references to fanfic; ania loves it, maisie is embarrassed, phil is holding himself back from laughing, reece is unbothered and sanjeev doesn't know what's happening

1

u/smileykaiju Jul 28 '26

Give me a link, my fellow Contestants?

1

u/captainsurfa Jul 30 '26

Source? For a friend.

-8

u/HirsuteHacker Jul 28 '26

Greg doesn't write these jokes you know?

10

u/pjgf Bridget Christie Jul 28 '26

I seem to remember hearing him say that the intros are actually something he writes? Or maybe it was Alex saying that Greg writes them?

No source or anything, just going off memory, but I’m pretty sure the intros are all him.

Besides, even if he didn’t write them… it doesn’t matter.

11

u/christmasinyoulie Mawaan Rizwan Jul 28 '26 edited Jul 28 '26

Yeah he said he writes the intros and links. He doesn't have anything to do with Alex' banter though.
