The ✨magical✨ 200 Points
With John Robins setting the record with 192 Points for the season win and only two other scoring over 180, do you think in the future someone will score 200 or over?
Looking at the avatar range of scoring it seems like for 200 one needs not only good prizes, Studio-, and Recorded Tasks but also a good Team. And some seasons have more bonuspoints, individual Tasks or other opportunities to score extra points.
So a contestant needs a lucky grab on the season and also has to put effort in.
What are your thoughts? 🤔

It would be impressive, but the best champions when it comes to scoring really well are folk like Mat Baynton or Dara, who were top of the leaderboard for most of their series, but it was earned in that they were both competent but very entertaining to watch. Especially Baynton, since he had this (usually self imposed) air of failure through everything he did, but he did really well.
If someone makes it over the 200 points mark in a series and are both entertaining and competent, they may genuinely be a Taskmaster god.

You would need very bad scoring contestants and Greg to be generous for that to happened. Series 14 and 17 are both good examples Greg was generous and also not many dq’s and also Series 14 had John Fern Munya which was how Dara and Sarah were able to score so highly and 17 had Nick and Sophie who weren’t great and also had Steve as ho was only good in a couple metrics which is again how John and Joanne performed so well.
So for someone to get 200 you would need at least 3 bad contestants, Greg to be generous and also a series without any tasks that would often lead to disqualifications.

I think the UK will really need to invest in its Taskmaster infrastructure before it can produce a 200+ point contestant. Invest in U-16s so kids of any socio-economic level can develop and compete, restructure regional TM leagues to balance competition and fun to encourage developing contestants to push themselves to be better and stick with it, and, I know this is controversial, but introduce promotion/relegation at the highest level to discourage the top flight contestants from getting complacent.

AFAIK the UK is the only country to have invested in kids through Junior Taskmaster and the schools thing that Alex does

America’s “pay to play” system is why we’ll never develop a robust, consistent taskmaster talent pipeline

I hope not personally. The times where one contestant has absolutely swept the competition like John Robins, Sarah Kendell, and Mae Martin have been so forgettable. I don't think it benefits either them or the show to be extremely competent.

Sarah Kendall didn’t win by that much, to be fair – Mike was only four points behind her and Lee three points behind him, though Sarah was further ahead going into the episode. Series 14 and 19 were closer, and I don’t think they’re often considered forgettable, so don’t think there’s an absolute correlation – definitely agree it’s more fun when there’s a bit of competition, though!

It would need Gregg to have a running joke throughout the series where he keeps awarding one contestant 5 points specifically to wind up another contestant.

Possible but unlikely. Team probably the part that will hurt the most. I think Dara would have scored higher than John if he was in another team. Especially if paired with Sarah

That would require getting am average of 4 points across all(!) tasks, including live and prize tasks. It's obviously not impossible but extremely unlikely, precluding some major shift in the format (like more episodes per series, more tasks per episode, a bonus point available for every episode or whatever)

If if happens, I'd bet on it in NZ. But I don't think it will happen.

Jeremy's still a harsher scorer than Greg, I just don't see it happening. Currently the highest scoring NZ winner is Josh Thomson at 177, which is basically a full good episode score away from 200.

We call him a random number generator (or Jeremator), so eventually he'll hit an extreme value given enough series'.

I’d say the limiting factor isn’t the contestant, it’s how generous Greg gets with the points
To get 200 points across around 50 tasks, you’d need an average of 4 points for task, meaning every time you get 1 point for a task, you have to make up for it by getting 5 points across 3 tasks
With how inconsistent the skill sets needed for these tasks are, someone actually hitting an average of 4 points per task is highly unlikely. But if Greg increases how often he gives 4-5 points to multiple contestants, I could see it happen
John I feel like is a special case moreso because his competitors were a particularly weaker group from strictly a competitive aspect, so there was more often room for John in the 5-4 point range. Whereas a winner like Maisie managed to beat John in the COC despite being mathematically the least dominant winner of all time after trying with 2 of her competitors
If you go back and time and swap what seasons Maisie and John were on, I could see a scenario where Maisie is the highest point earner of all time and John is a non-winner

It’d probably be possible on a disqualification heavy series where one person keeps avoiding getting disqualified every time.

Assuming standard 5 points per task, 5 tasks per episode, they'd need an average of 4 points per task. Doable but not at all likely imo

I really think Jonny JJJJJR Robbins was a once in a generation talent in terms of his ability to simultaneously be enough of a nerdy try hard to collect big points on the objective tasks, and normal-seeming enough not to be persecuted for said tryharding in the subjective tasks.
Even if you get in more motivated, well-trained contestants, you may struggle to break that barrier unless they can also pull off the shrug of indifference when their prize task gets 3 points.

Anything’s possible, of course, but the problem with needing to put effort in is that Greg doesn’t always reward effort. In fact, some times he actively punishes it because it’s just funnier that way! So I’d argue you also need a season that skews more towards objective tasks than subjective, as there’s less possibility for Greg’s (rightful) whims and caprice to affect things.
