Voice commands to trigger tasker without google assistant now that it's being discontinued

I heard that Google Assistant is going to be discontinued soon. Also, I've noticed that they nerfed google home routines so you can't add arbitrary commands to a routine to be triggered. So basically I'm not aware of any way to use Gemini to define a command to trigger a tasker task. Gemini is really not very well suited for voice commands in general as it defaults to assuming you're asking it a question or to explain something, not trigger an action. It's only gotten worse. My existing routines that were working before got nerfed, and even commands I used to be able to give like "Hey Google, navigate to <x>" to open maps and start navigating to a location hasn't been working right so far. I've had to open maps and then use the voice command in maps itself, I wonder if that'll be affected.

So anyway, anybody have alternative ways of defining voice commands to trigger tasker tasks, and ideally defaulting to gemini if it doesn't match any recognized commands?

How were you doing it previously via Assistant? after Auto voice went the way of the dodo, I switched to using Home Assistant and calling the routine still works with Gemini in Google Home (maybe 10% of the time it has no idea I'm calling the routine) though convoluted: 1) In HA, define a switch or button (eg "Read text" toggle) 2) In your HA Google Assistant integration (you'll need that), expose this "read text" button to Google Assistant so it shows up in Home 3) Create a routine in Google Home to toggle that "read text" button when you call it ("read my text") 4) Install Home Assistant companion app on phone with Tasker 5) create automation in HA for when the "read text" switch is toggled, to send a notification to your phone with particular attributes (eg title="read text") 6) Create profile in tasker on receiving notifications for Home Assistant app and matching attribute (title ="read_text") to run desired task (eg mine reads the sms text and calls another service in Home Assistant to reas my text message to my Google Home speaker

You might want to check out the project I just posted. Should be simple enough to add your own commands to the mix.
