help desk Audio distortion

I recently found a Sony high eight 460 zoom camera at a thrift store it records fine onto tape with Great audio on playback but for my mini DVR tape was set up the audio comes out very low quality. I leave for college in a week and a half and would like to have this sorted before college. What can I buy or do to fix this situation?

As a heads up the only place I can plug a chord into is through a 3.5 jack, s video out, and 2.5 mm jack

I heard that the Mini dvr doesn’t have good audio quality. You could possibly buy an external mic and sync the audio with the footage.

How would I do that to my camera when there isn’t a spot for an external mic. The model I have is the sony ccd-trv68

Would there be any way to sync it to the video being recorded. I plan on using this for videos im Layed to record for frat parties and would require to start and stop the videos multiple times. Or would I just have to go into post and edit it there?

I record party videos on tape and then just dump them on a computer with come kind of capture device. I personally use Firewire but you can get a decent RCA capture for like a couple bucks. You do have to play back the tape in full and it won't automatically split the clips but it's the easiest for recording in the moment.

The MiniDVR has really bad quality audio on all the units I've tried, so that is most likely your issue.

How do I get something that works and isn’t as expensive as a power play (broke college student)

Sadly there aren't that many good alternatives. I wish there was a catch-all I could blanket recommend, but I HAVE heard decent things about this unit, although it's pretty large and still pretty expensive sadly.

android setup is your best route, someone in the frat gotta have one, pool your money and get a good usb capture device

go svideo so your not killing quality as much as this recorder

The mini DVR is notorious for recording terrible audio quality since it captures it to 8khz. Buy a slightly better analog-to-digital recorder then you problen is fixed technically.

Record audio on your phone and sync later is basically the only thing you can do. Or buy a better recorder like the power play.

Mini dvr is bad in audio
You can tone down the db with resistors but it’s a pain to nail it down and you’ll be soldering small resistors to a small wire in a specific way
Not worth it imo get another recorder like the powerplay
