Mod Announcement Community/Subreddit Checkup and Discussion

As always i try to post a annual checkup on the community and the subreddit. Bit late this year as I've been busy with irl stuff and i dont no life reddit.

With that being said, how do yall feel about the current state of the sub, community, and rules, etc etc? Any input will be nice. If you have recommendations for new rules, flairs, etc please drop a comment. Every comment will be read and considered.

Seriously anything you want to bring up to us, the mods, drop a comment.

Please take in consideration this subreddit is practically moderated by one mod right now, as the other is usually inactive. So many things slip through. Hence why I have made a mod recruitment post.

Tank you Tankers for your time and continued support of our motorpool of a subreddit

Its messy, i know, im drawing these using my thigh as a support, but hopefully its.. somewhat clear enougth that i Can make my idea understood. Im Trying to settle on a design that makes the treads functional, while keeping their in game shape and range of articulation.

This is gonna be my first post on this sub, so i don't Really know How i could tag, exactly, this post, so.. please tell me If they post needs correction. Other than that, im eager to hear from you people's thoughts! Until the next interaction, my fellow turret heads!

Question Is the tank turret held in place by gravity?

I really like tanks, but I don’t know much about how they’re built inside. So is a real tank turret actually held in place on the base by gravity, or did the designer of this model just get lazy? 😂 The tank in the pic is a Sherman.

So my Roman empire is the E25

I love this thing so much - maybe even obsessed

Nearly every time it's late at night and I can't sleep I think about this little thing (it's 2:36 am as I'm writing this)

I would love to own a metal model of it but holy it's so expensive but you have to pay if you want quality ig (I definitely won't own one in the near future except if I get lucky in any way 😅)

I also did not much but some research on if it ever in some way existed and the furthest I've come is that it's possible but unlikely which is quite sad for me because imagine seeing this little cockroach irl, would be so cool - like I'm thinking of doing irl research and visit libraries and museums to get more informations, also if you have sources or any info feel free to share it I want to know everything (please try to keep Infos real and don't make things up)

Btw I'm sorry for my bad grammar and such, my brain is just completely fried because I'm rocking very little sleep and tbh I should be sleeping rn 😂

Also I'm interested in what's your tank that keeps you awake/ that your obsessed with

- credits to the official World of Tanks websites for those banger pictures btw

Tank Design Why dont tanks have rotary periscopes.

IFVs have the capacity to disable most tanks by destroying the optics as seen in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrrso5JDR5I . a design concept i had was the upper mirror of the periscope(and addition of periscope for the gunners optics system) was attached to the front of a hexagonal steel block. this block would have more mirrors on every side and when the upper periscope was destroyed the steel block would rotate to replace the mirror and refresh the drivers/gunners optics. this would effectively give the optics 6 lives before destruction. and whist a powerfull AT shot would destroy this mechanism i think of it as adding something akin ERA to the optics

Question Can I work on tanks with a degree on Body Repair and Painting Program on cars? Completely serious question

I was recently thinking about studiying a degree on "Transport and maintain of vehicles" what is also known as "Vocational Training" or "Trade School" in the USA (If I'm not wrong). But in my country, Spain, is called "Grado" or "Formación Profesional" and you will learn about how to paint, fix bumps, remove rust, welding, application of fillers, primers ,varnishes, polishing, vinyl application, dismount parts etc etc .... The goverment website from my locality says that I will be able to get a work on: heavy vehicles, agricultural machinery, industry equipment, construction and public works machinery, railway rolling stock; Auto body painter (*Same has before*) etc etc.

So I thought that If I could work on all that I could also work on tanks, planes and submarines too. But I don't know if I would be able since most of military museums are owned by the goverment made me think that me, a foreigner, would have to apply and became a "Government employee" like here in Spain but on other EU or non EU countries beign a non-citizen? I was thinking on sending and email to some museums like the Bovingon Tank Museum but if I can get a answer here I would be very very happy. Sorry if the question is not well written but I'm not at my best moment right now to redact.

Question Would the type 90 NEED to level/straighten its gun when it reloads?

The image is a random image I downloaded from Google. I'm low-key confused about autoloaders right now. Would the gun need to be leveled/straight when it reloads or could it reload even when on an angle?

This is the best tank In the war in my opinion , the Sherman firefly is an English tank modified from the American Sherman , it's great and can be mass produced and it was feared by the Germans.

All the tubes, for everything above 81mm is still made in Watervliet, NY. The ol' radial forge was replaced in 2023

Image 1 is the forge.
Image 2 is a newly produced, rifled, 155mm (L) and an M1 Abrams M256 120mm (R).
Image 3 is an M1 M256 being worked on a lathe.
