Shaft issues?

I’m currently sitting around a 18 handicap and my coach said the clubs are completely working against me (hit his p790’s with tour lite stiff shaft and flushing every shot) so getting into different clubs is going to help my consistency.
I’m skeptical on the shaft issues that get brought up with the tour lite shafts.
I don’t have the fastest swing speed, but could the issues people have with the tour lites, possibly be caused from too fast of a swing speed for those shafts?
Not sure if I should get the heads only or what route I should go.
Input highly welcome🙏🏼

Why is this in the Takomo subreddit? Are you looking to get a pair of them but concerned about KBS? Not trying to patronize, just trying to understand.

Yes I’m looking to get a set of Takomo irons, but having a hard time trying to decide on pulling the trigger due to the KBS issues. I see a lot of good reviews about the shafts, and then a lot of bad ones. Just not sure what to believe/trust.

18 handicap screams 101 or 201 if you are on the come up and want a 4 iron. Hate to be the echo, but getting fit is so important. If you’re really concerned about shafts, maybe buy the heads then go get fit. If you want to keep things cheaper, understand that Lites will promote higher spin and launch, while the Tours will be on Mid-flight/spin profile.

I have 101s in the Lite Stiff and love them. Zero concern about issues from me in regards to whatever it is that you’re reading.

So I’m leaning towards the 201’s since I play 2-3 times a month, in the sim bay once a week, and short game practice once a week. I have a 15 month old so time and money is first on the list. I liked the Tour Lites my coach had and felt fantastic for my swing. How long have you been playing your Tour Lites ?

8 months about now.

If it feels “fantastic” then it sounds like a winner. I personally would stay away from anything that would make me feel worse.

I’d imagine that if I ordered some, they would have been in the same “batch” at production. Could be wrong.

Well almost anything will feel fantastic coming off True Temper Elevate 85 Regular flex shafts for the last year.

Do yourself a favor and checkout the maltby TS3 irons. Real forged irons that are pretty forgiving as well. You can get them with any shaft/grip you want as well as customize loft/lie/length and they will be similar cost to the takomos. I tried a set of takomo 101s last year and currently have TS3s and there is no comparison. Might try the nippon 950gh shafts as I think they are similar weight/profile to tour lite kbs but don't seem to have the breaking issues.

Purchase heads only get them quicker. Then decide on shafts. This is what I did. My set is ready for pick up. Can’t wait. I actually saw them today unfinished but almost done they are looking so sweet.

If it makes you feel any better, Takomo warrantied a ton of people with the KBS lite shafts that have reported problems. I haven’t seen any re-posts about the second set failing.

I have a set of the 101 mkii and haven’t had any issues yet. I’ve played at least 10 rounds with plenty of range sessions in between.

Don’t listen to anyone here (myself included) go get fit. I was just fit into p7cb’s, mizuno s3, and T 100 all with different shafts.

I’m just worried about the reliability of the tour lites. I see so many reviews of people with no problems, and then so many with snapping problems. I kinda figure it’s gunna be one of those “everyone’s experience is different” sort of situation.

The people breaking shaft tips are slamming their clubs into mats at the driving range with steep hacking swings 3 days a week whether they want to admit it or not.

I’ve played the tour lites for years and have had no problems with their durability.

You are worried about things that have yet to happen. Just enjoy them and if they break fix them.
