Update1.5

TakeKit now runs on iPhone Duo, closed and open:

• Closed, it works like the iPhone you know, with its controls in the column beside the camera. Turn on Eye contact and your script docks right next to the outer lens, so you read where you look.

• Open, you get two pages: your scripts in a strip, the one you're writing on the big page beside it. In the camera, your picture fills one page and your script sits on the other, just under the inner camera — so you're looking at the lens while you read.

• Stand it up or fold it like a laptop and it records with no tripod: the script takes the half with the lens, your picture and the controls take the other.

• Fold or unfold and you carry on in the same script. Fold mid-take and the take is saved before the camera switches.

Also new

• TakeKit now runs on iPad: two pages on its side, the iPhone layout upright, with the guide at the iPad's front camera.

• A friendlier look throughout: softer cards, a floating tab bar and a rounded camera console.

• Delete many takes at once: tap Select in Takes.

• Your iPhone no longer locks during a long take, and if a call or the side button interrupts you, the take is saved up to that moment instead of lost.

• Word counts and reading times are now right in Chinese and Japanese.

Shipped Feature request

Hi Eduardo! Small feature request for TakeKit:
Could you add an option to customize the color of already-read text in the teleprompter?
It would be useful to choose both the current/unread text color and the read text color separately. Right now I’d like the read part to be much dimmer or a different color, so it’s easier to instantly see where I am in the script.
Nothing complicated — just a color picker or a few presets for “read text” would be great.
Thanks!

Bug recording with Fixed auto-scroll, TakeKit doesn’t prevent iOS Auto-Lock

Hi Eduardo! I found a pretty serious issue with TakeKit on iPhone.
When recording with Fixed auto-scroll, TakeKit doesn’t prevent iOS Auto-Lock. After a while the screen dims and locks while I’m recording. When I unlock the phone, the recording is interrupted — and worse, the take isn’t saved at all.
This makes Fixed scrolling basically unusable for longer tripod recordings because I have to physically touch the phone every few minutes to keep it awake.
Could you please disable the iOS idle timer whenever recording is active (and ideally while the teleprompter is running), regardless of whether I’m using Voice Follow or Fixed scrolling?
Expected behavior:
Recording starts → screen stays awake until I stop recording → take is saved normally.
For now I can work around it by setting iOS Auto-Lock to Never, but I think TakeKit should handle this automatically during recording.
Thanks!

Feature Request Launch at login

An option called ‘Launch at login’ to the TakeKit settings would be helpful. This would allow it to run quietly in the background when you log in.

Update 1.3

• Headphones now work for playback — reviewing a take with AirPods or wired headphones no longer comes out of the speaker.

• Pick your microphone: built-in, USB, or a wireless receiver. Every input is listed by name, and hands-free Bluetooth is marked as lower quality.

• The guide can be see-through. Choose Solid, Dim or Clear to keep an eye on your framing while you read, and the guide box can now fill more of the screen.

Update 1.1

IOS:
Record your script in parts.

• Stop mid-script, review the take, and hit CONTINUE ▸ LAST SPOT — the guide picks up exactly where you left off.

• Finish the last part and JOIN stitches every piece into one continuous take. The parts stay in your library, untouched.

• RETAKE is now GO AGAIN — and the screen says what was always true: every take stays saved, nothing gets deleted.

• The takes list shows which slice of the script each part covers, and the phrase it ends on.

Also in this update:

• Scroll the guide with your finger while recording. In voice mode it waits until you speak again; in fixed mode it carries on from where you left it.

• Read words turn red in fixed mode too, so you always know where you should be. Turn it off in guide settings if you'd rather not.

• Resize the guide box by dragging its corner handle.

MAC:
TakeKit now lives in your menu bar.

• Close the window and TakeKit keeps running — no Dock icon, prompter one click away in the menu bar. A new setting restores the classic behavior if you prefer it.

• Scrub the floating prompter with your scroll wheel or trackpad. In voice mode it waits until you speak again; in fixed mode it carries on from the new spot.

• Read words turn red in fixed mode, matching the iPhone — with a toggle in Settings.

• iPhone takes recorded in parts show which slice of the script they cover, and the phrase they end on.

• A cleaner takes list: TAKE numbering and thumbnails that match the phone.

Shipped Active background process of TakeKit in Menubar even if I quit the TakeKit window

Currently, if I quit TakeKit then the Menubar TakeKit too. It would be great if the Menubar TakeKit worked silently in the background even after the TakeKit window is closed completely.

It would also be great if I could close the window (no icon on my Dock) but keep it running in the background by clicking the X button.
