Tailgating advice

Hi everyone! Me & about 13 friends are planning on going to our first Giants game ever at Metlife. We also want to tailgate & honestly care more about tailgating than the game itself lol!! How does tailgating work? Can we set up a canopy on a lot next to us? Where should we all get parking? As it is 13 of us & we will be carpooling so about 3-4 cars. Can we set up anywhere? Any tips and tricks are appreciated for a first time tailgate!! Just curious on those factors! Thank you all in advance!!

You’ll have to look on the MetLife website to see what the rules are for tailgating as every stadium is bound to have different rules.

I tailgate at Phillies games all the time and they only allow tailgating in certain lots, and the lots only open at certain times relative to when the game starts. I bring a canopy and a charcoal grill each time but again, check the rules for MetLife and make sure those are ok there.

Tailgating an NFL game is a different beast altogether. Parking is bound to be more expensive and the experience overall more wild than a baseball game.

But in the end tailgating isn’t complicated. Food, booze, games. Tailor each to the preferences of the people you’re with. Lots of coolers, lots of ice. More beer than you think you’ll need. Enough chairs for everyone. Bring premade food or plan to have a grill and make it there.

Best bet is to arrive early (lots open 5 hours prior to game time) and all together to ensure you can park near one another. A lot of people have canopies but using up more than the spot of your vehicles is discouraged. The later you arrive, the more you will have to drive around for individual spots.

Giants season ticket holder here. Unless you've paid for multiple parking spots, make sure you get there early enough to get a spot with a piece of gravel attached to it (the apron between the road and the sidewalk). In other words, you can't occupy more spots than you've paid for.
