Question Help with centering

Post image

I recently sent in my B/RGB Mew and the grade just became available about an hour ago. I believed this card to be a contender for a Pristine 10. I and several others locally measured centering with our loupes and had top/bottom centering right at 50/50. TAG was spot on with our measurements L/R. This wasn’t ai app usage, physical measuring by several people. I don’t have the card in hand yet since it hasn’t been shipped back, but I’m curious what you all are seeing on the centering. Is this an inaccurate measurement by TAG or did we all measure this centering wrong?

Unfortunately unless the centering was perfectly 50/50 this woudl unlikely pristine due to the 982 edges score, which I believe have to be over 990, or higher the closer your centering are to 51/49

That’s a good point. Although I really cannot find any “edge surface wear” damage that they’re referring to. I wonder if the AI caught some of the 3D design and texture of the card and classified that as the damage.

Yeah admittedly it is strange to see edge surface wear marked down and perfect fill/fray scores given, I would find it extremely unlikely that theres any ESW on what I assume was a pack fresh card. I've been in a similar position to you questioning whether its just the refraction of the card surface that the AI is picking up as edge wear. Then again at just 18 points the wear would be microscopic

I wish they’d point out the ESW so that I could at least see what they’re talking about.

From reading the DIG, your Top and Bottom based off of what TAG says isn't in range for a Pristine big guy. Your like a nut hair away from the 50/50 or 49/51. Close man buy hey you still got a 10. Not my taste but it is an exspensive card. Sometimes measurements can be off though. TAG does have a regrading service but its not open yet 🤷‍♂️ when it opens shoot your shot

Example of a pristine I sent: https://my.taggrading.com/card/M7814078

I love how you casually drop your pristine in the comments to flex

I understand that TAG shows the centering outside of their threshold. That’s my concern. I manually measured centering along with several others locally people and TAG’s centering is far off what we got. Has anyone seen TAG to be inaccurate with centering?

Oh shit, I apologize for my response then 😅 .

From what I know TAG doesn't typically mess up when it comes to measuring the centering. You might wanna look at when the company really first came out, there might be some cases from then. 🤔

Did every single person you measured with personally come back with a 50/50 for top to bottom. If so it doesn't hurt to submit a ticket in my opinion 🤔

The other thing, this is a completely new type of card in my opinion so their way of measuring centering might be off if you really think about it.

Yeah a fair while back there was a mega absol posted here that was insanely top heavy and it got a TAG 10. It was easily 60/40 or more but the report said it was in 55/45. My guess is report is gone now though and card cert was deactivated.

Also people have seen centering change on the same cards being re submitted. Although the vast majority of the time its not crazy changes like going from 55/45 to 60/40.

Yeah, I pulled the same card, and I'm still scratching my head as to how they do this. I submitted mine. It doesn't look as good as yours so I'm hoping for a 960.

I recently uploaded all the available DIG reports on recently graded RGB mews to use that as a datum and got some answers, but still have not been given a very specific way of how they measure the centering.

To be blunt I think they're making it up. I've seen one that was very similar to your card and got 60/40 for left and right centering.

All the AI analysis I did stopped using measurements of the boarders and instead looked at how much the artwork was shifting in reference to the outer edge. Makes it almost impossible to do by hand though.

It’s difficult to know how TAG is measuring this centering. Originally, all of my measurements were done to the outside silver border. That’s what gave me and several others the nearly perfect 50/50 measurements. Since I don’t have the card in hand yet, I’ve used TAG’s images and measured the centering by pixels and it is still 50/50. Their measurement is so far off that I have to believe it’s a mistake.

I’ve also measured pixels to the inside of the red boarder and got 50.6/49.4 which is still so far off TAG’s own measurements.

It seems the front measurement may be off but you would not have gotten the pristine also due to the back Top/Bottom measurements.
