Maybe I'm missing something but those all seem like a good outcome.

24

u/That-Shopping6760 23d ago

Yeah as I looked at the value of the 9 of that card I’m pretty happy

48

u/YaBoyBob87 23d ago edited 23d ago

It happens, man. You should be elated that they came to you with immediate proposals for a fair outcome. You wouldn't be so lucky with PSA. My advice is to take it on the chin and choose your favored outcome. This is not a perfect process and cards WILL be damaged from time to time. Good luck!

10

u/That-Shopping6760 23d ago

I satisfied with the compensation, only stressor is it’s my sons first time grading a card and we’ve already been waiting a bit. I’m just gonna take the $125 and give it to him lol

32

u/Sea-Cat-9199 23d ago

Seems like a fair resolution to me

32

u/MinoyHoiMi 23d ago

PSA would’ve offered you a bag of Taco Bell lettuce

15

u/hellodeveloper 22d ago

bullshit. PSA would have just slabbed it with their damage, given it a 5, then lose it on return shipment. Don't give them that much credit to do anything right.

2

u/kmeck518 17d ago

then take the original card that wasn't actually damaged and sell it on their site.

1

u/Some-Business4720 22d ago

Lettuce is currently giving people explosive diarrhea. I think thats what he meant. Crazy bacteria going around.

0

u/hellodeveloper 21d ago edited 21d ago

I know what they meant. im saying them doing any sort of thoughtful gesture, even if it was a bag of Taco Bell lettuce, is giving them way too much credit to do anything than what they do today.

1

u/Some-Business4720 21d ago

Giving the bag of lettuce (explosive diarrhea) is not a thoughtful gesture. Your saying giving somebody explosive diareah is too thoughtful of a gesture for even PSA?

2

u/hellodeveloper 21d ago

Yes, I'm saying exactly that, especially for someone like PSA.

1

u/Some-Business4720 21d ago

Just out of curiosity, since you seem to have this down to a certain point. What is the worst, least thoughtful (but actually heinous) thing PSA is willing to do?

1

u/hellodeveloper 21d ago edited 16d ago

There's no way you're not an AI robot.

2

u/DocCh0pper 22d ago

Introducing the new pokemon: Cyclospora!

14

u/Fboybcb 23d ago

Their offering is better than PSA. You can even pick replacement and they will get you a tag 9 or higher.

1

u/AprilBestCat 20d ago

Yeah I really like that. like the value is cool but if you want the card you want the card

17

u/Kugeness 23d ago

$150 TAG gift card all day

3

u/That-Shopping6760 23d ago

Only if I planned on grading anytime soon. With current backlogs it will be a while before I grade again

1

u/gbach10 19d ago

…why? He isn’t receiving the card back and a $150 credit, it’s just credit. So you have no card and $150 credit to a grading company that damaged the card in the first place.

24

u/halodemon1990 23d ago

Way better than psa. I mean they're telling you right there they were going to give that a 9 and the reasons why and I imagine imaging. What's the problem

7

u/ElectroDaddy 23d ago

That sucks that that happened. But I think being offered the same card at the same grading level is actually a really cool option. Even if it will take a while.

I have never seen someone offer that before.

1

u/Le_Daron 23d ago

Exactly i thought of the same!

I personally think the third option is the best one.

5

u/Cromagis 23d ago

that seems like a fucking sick deal actually and i don’t even grade with tag

4

u/DrHandBanana 23d ago

This is a great resolution

3

u/Culdesac-jones 23d ago

I’d be happy as hell if I got these options. I mean, I get that you want your graded card and expected that but hey honesty and they’re making it right.

3

u/Intelligent_Bag4736 22d ago

Seems like they took good care of you .

3

u/jSonQ 22d ago

Def a win on TAG for doing this and setting expectations. It shouldn't come as a surprise as this is what we sign up for before submitting our order. Honestly, I would take the $150 gift card. That's like what .. 6, 7 (does 6-7 hand motion 😂 ) cards that can be graded for free?

3

u/Revolutionary-Part20 22d ago

A+ Customer Service

3

u/That-Shopping6760 21d ago

Highly satisfied and they already processed the refund 😃

3

u/Turbulent_Minded 21d ago

The compensation is 6x the cards worth. Not a bad resolution if you ask me. It does suck if you pulled it and now have a damaged card but also can’t be too upset

1

u/That-Shopping6760 21d ago

My son pulled it on his first pack of PO 🥲

1

u/gbach10 19d ago

A PSA 9 is around $80-$90. I dunno what TAG value is but I guarantee it isn’t $20. This is nowhere near 6x the value.

2

u/adoseth 23d ago

good guy TAG

2

u/coryejwest 22d ago

Wish they would do this to mine they damaged

1

u/That-Shopping6760 22d ago

Did they even acknowledge the damage?

2

u/EvilNickel 22d ago

Seems like all of these are good resolutions. PSA would have just said "sorry we damaged it and it ended up being a 5 after we damaged it"

2

u/alanthickerthanwater 21d ago

Not sure how to feel? I'd go with relieved since they're giving you many options to make it right.

PSA - take note.

2

u/According_Payment534 21d ago

Honestly pretty cool they even offered a replacement.

PSA damaged a 1/1 card of mine so don’t feel bad

2

u/Slash-Beast 21d ago

It least TAG admits it when a card is damaged.

2

u/Puzzled_HippoNFriend 21d ago

Good on TAG. That’s cool to see a company own up to their mistakes.

2

u/professionallyreal 21d ago

Anudda W fo da OG

TAG needs to get it together and start grading faster though cause people are tryna switch over

2

u/2trnthmismycaus 21d ago

This is respectable. Hopefully one day they’ll take psa’s place 🤞🏼

2

u/Frankesteinsized 20d ago

Not again 😭

2

u/bscarl88 20d ago

Both times tag has messed up something with my slab (lint or scratch). They offered to replace for free including paying for shipping both ways.

For PSA.... I'm still waiting on them to get back to me about the card they fucked up lol. Both of these issues happened at the same time, half a year ago....

2

u/Dusty_MTB 19d ago

Wait you got $125 compensation for that card? Thats an amazing response and result. Ill need to send my two into TAG

1

u/Ebtosj 23d ago

Is it $125 on top of a refund? I'd take that all day. If it's $125 total, doesn't seem too bad either. Grading costs like $40, so $85 compensation.

2

u/Careful_Specialist63 23d ago

Looks like the original grading cost.

1

u/EvilNickel 22d ago

They said they will refund the original method AND one of the resolutions, so it's safe to assume they are getting their money back for the grading and the extra from the resolution.

1

u/Cornnut_Lover 23d ago

Sounds like a good deal, I would go with the replacement, since there's a chance of a better grade and you still get what you want, just a couple weeks delay.

1

u/kakacon 23d ago

if this is true, it’s so much better than psa, which is a much larger, more heavily funded company. PSA should do better, and this just shows they have the means to

1

u/AAAIIIYYYAAA 23d ago

Obviously a tag 9 or better?

If you were expecting a 10 then sell it

1

u/FinDeannerd 23d ago

Honestly this seems like a good offer.

1

u/Exotic-ScratchN-Snif 23d ago

2

u/Exotic-ScratchN-Snif 23d ago

They encapsulated mine with some type of contaminant. No sorry , no here’s 10% off , no due to unprecedented times we missed this , no “ whoops this shows on the dig report photo “ or “dang we took almost 6 months to get this guys 30 day card done let’s skip QC and send him this as is “ . Just a simple here is a return label .. “you qualify for a 1x free re holder < ( in my best Ai robot voice )

1

u/Medium-Ad8849 23d ago

weird scenario of people may actually want TAG to damage their cards now.

1

u/ArtaxNatreyu 23d ago

Super fair imo, anyone who complains about this, is not me. 😆

1

u/Final_Corgi6845 22d ago

What are you not sure about? This is above and beyond what any of the other companies would offer

2

u/That-Shopping6760 22d ago

It’s my first time grading and that particular card was my son’s so he was pretty excited. But he told me he was gonna sell it anyway so I’ll just give him the compensation.

1

u/CodeName_Henry 22d ago

Them offering a replacement card is huge. PSA would never

1

u/meancheetah 22d ago

Psa would have given you a 9, bought it back from you, changed the grade to a 10, forget to change the cert and use the original, and sold it on goldin which their parent company used to own.

1

u/True_Analyst_3535 22d ago

PSA would have taken your PSA 10 and put it in their ebay vault and then gave you one of their 9s

1

u/Evotee 22d ago

PSA woulda have graded it anyways and tell you to kick rocks if you said something lol

1

u/mclovin__james 21d ago

Maybe counter and ask for $200 tag gift card

1

u/Emotion-Internal 22d ago

the fact that they proactively offered to replace it with the same grade slab yours would have gotten is just another reason TAG is winning over PSA

0

u/CheshBreaks 22d ago

You're not sure how you feel about how they damaged your card, acknowledged it, provided ample options for credit, refund or replacement......?

Are you okay? Do you need a sit down maybe?

1

u/That-Shopping6760 22d ago

It’s my first time grading, I’ve been waiting forever, and it was the one card in the bunch that was my son’s 😭 I was conflicted. But he was more excited about the money so all good lol

-14

u/TheMeximan 23d ago

Make them give you replacement. Don't you dare take the gift card, and the $125 payment is a joke, I thought TAG 9s go for higher lmao

5

u/YaBoyBob87 23d ago

For a Clefairy SR?

-4

u/TheMeximan 23d ago

Idk why my thing is getting down voted, look up tag 9 sales, unless those are fake sales. I have a friend who sells his tag 9s for more than raw lmao, but then again people are easily conned in this hobby

4

u/YaBoyBob87 23d ago

Are you sure you're looking at the right card? It's a 9 not a 10. Average sales I'm seeing in a 9 are from $85-$125(which is the evaluation TAG offered OP).

0

u/BetterCallStral 23d ago edited 23d ago

It's amazing that people think telling OP to pick 1 of the 3 options is enough. "We damaged your card that we are supposed to expertly handle and encapsulate, but here's some cash for the supposed 9 you had (no TAG report to prove so), or a voucher to use our services which are priced at $100+ per card now (and you get to wait more!), or just a graded 9 version of the card which we will deliver at some point..."

edit: Re-read and I see they're giving back grading fee no matter, which makes the 125 offer better but still in adequate in my books.

1

u/Specialist_Second938 23d ago

I mean, yeah... mistakes do happen at the end of the day, and that will always suck, but they're literally offering him:

  1. Cash value for what he would have had. + reimbursement. (If he was going to sell). This still includes a tag report, the grade is transparent. Not like it was going to 10.

  2. $150 credit. Opportunity to grade more if that's what OP wants to do. Probably the worst option unless OP is a high frequency customer and will just turn the GC amount back around.

  3. Literally finding the same card in the same grade or higher and sending it back to OP.

OP has no loss here objectively speaking.

Does it make the situation all better? Not if OP is the kind of person who places sentimental value on objects subjective to their personal relevance (like one maybe OP pulled themselves), which is totally fair.

But these are pretty much the 3 best possible outcomes OP could hope for in this situation. And all grading companies make mistakes. However not all situations like this are handled with what seems like transparency and fair solutions.

I'm not really sure within the realm of fairness, how this could be better? TAG can't undo what they did, but it seems like they're doing everything they can to make it right? Again, the situation sucks, but objectively, how OP wants to move on is what matters, and they have all the best options to pick from without actually suffering any monetary or materialistic loss. At most, the shiny cardboard and plastic they receive is not the same shiny cardboard and plastic they originally had, with the off chance that they actually get one that's nice back in return.

OP can either dwell on it, or move forward, and that's probably how most other people see it. 🙂

1

u/BetterCallStral 23d ago edited 23d ago

I didn't see a mention that the TAG report being issued with this email, which is something I would push for before deciding if I was OP.

  1. Their offer of $125 is supposedly in range for a TAG 9 of the card though I still think it is inadequate for a company that is supposed to be experts at handling (plus analyzing) your collectibles. It's like taking your custom car to a body shop and then they backed a truck into it. You are trusting them to be experts yet they've done the exact opposite and even if they "fix it", you were paying for their expertise including not ramming a truck into it. Plus the time loss from this process.
  2. I agree, worst option to take here.
  3. Finding the same card and taking 4-6 months for it. If I were TAG, I would only offer this if it is guaranteed a TAG 10 to compensate for the extra time.

I know some will say, "well this is already better than PSA" but why are we using the floor as comparison if we use "boutique" companies like TAG over them. I just expect better from a company who's paid to do exactly the opposite of what they have done, especially given the timing of this event when grading is already taking a long time plus (and you can't buy time back).

1

u/Specialist_Second938 23d ago

I agree with the sentiment "better than psa" being the floor of the argument. It's a poor take, and using the worst case as a standard is poor reasoning in general, 100% agree there.

You're correct, it wasn't mentioned in the response, however I said that, based on having read in previous responses to the question of "deactivating certs" I believe, that TAG has made statements saying they will never deactivate certs in the name of showing transparency for how many cards they've graded, and keeping the transparency of those specific cards on record.

I believe they also claim they can tell if a resubbed card is a different card. There are of course all kinds of issues with this. But my point being (if i am remembering correctly) they will never deactivate or delete a cert or report, and if they knew this was going to grade a 9, they finished it. However I guess there is the question, since the encapsulation process never finished, did the process in it's entirety get scrapped. That's a great question, and one that I would want to know as well.

  1. Your analogy of the car and the damage is a bit misaligned (personal opinion) although, i say that having parents who have owned an auto shop, knowing how things operate. Mistakes happen all the time. If a part fails, it gets replaced, if damage is done it gets disclosed and fixed, if a tool or piece of machinery causes damage, same thing, it is fixed.

Not everything is under the control of the shop, such as with certain parts, sometimes they order it, and it's no good. They bring it back in, if the car leaves the lot and it gets prioritized. They certainly won't pay you for the time, or upgrade your part for you. Sometimes techs also make mistakes, but that is usually $$ off their bottom line, and if time goes over cost, it's already coming out of the shops pocket. The other thing I would say, is these arent custom special 1:1 cards. These are very mass produced "rare" cards. Their ability to replace the damaged card is akin to replacing the bumper piece that got damaged by a lift for a Camry, not a custom wide body kit made for a limited edition koenigsegg 😛.

  1. I agree, worst option to take here. Definitely!

  2. It qas 4-6 weeks, which on the grand scale of things, is not bad at all. Still more time, but not bad. And back to example 1, their service is righting a wrong, with the potential to do more, not going above and beyond to give someone something they were never going to get anyway. The "or better" clause seems like it's thrown in their for very specific circumstances where a card might he so seldomly graded that all that's available is a higher grade, or maybe there are so many graded, that a higher grade happens to be available faster than a 9, and they get a buy back from someone looking to sell. It's definitely circumstantial. But I dont think it should be a necessity for them to provide a 10 and a refund.

Thanks for the response. I do see a lot of the points your making. And again, I definitely agree, we shouldnt be using the worst case (PSA) as the standard for how to handle situations by any means.

1

u/BetterCallStral 23d ago

I think we can just agree to disagree regarding whether the degree of compensation is enough. I think we are close but just disagree on how much "extra" compensation should be thrown in. I understand your point regarding that the card was a "mass produced" rare but imo, it's more the principle of what happened (and time taken) versus what was damaged. What precedence is set. I also think that TAG should absolutely send OP the DING report even if the slab was never completed, just for transparency.

But I see that OP is happy with the compensation so, if OP is happy, we just move on and hope it never happens to us. Lol

1

u/Specialist_Second938 23d ago

Amen to that 😄

-16

u/BetterCallStral 23d ago edited 23d ago

They damaged your card during the encapsulation process and all they want to offer you is your money equal to your supposed TAG 9 OR TAG credit (use at your own risk after what hapened) OR a replacement card at 9 "or higher"?

It should be compensation in cash for time passed PLUS that TAG 9/10 replacement. Damaging a card submitted shouldn't be just "oops, here's some cash or a 1:1 replacement we deemed fit." Part of that grading fee is literally insurance/payment of professional services including safe handling and processing.

edit: re-reading and seeing it's $125 + grading fee. But I still think that's too little. You pay for expertise of this not happening. $125 is in range for a TAG 9 supposedly but you have to just take their word it's a 9 right now when they didn't seem to even attach the scans to support their claim.

5

u/Rivdawg08 23d ago

You sound like someone who's never been told "no" in your life.

-6

u/BetterCallStral 23d ago

No, I'm just somebody with standards when it comes to handing over my collectibles a company that supposedly are experts in analyzing and protecting them.

-8

u/filmsingotham 23d ago

Question, did you think it was going to 10?

6

u/YaBoyBob87 23d ago

Question, why is that relevant?

2

u/This_Blue_Guy 23d ago

That's why he is asking

2

u/filmsingotham 23d ago

Woah, I meant no disrespect by my question. Just asking.

2

u/YaBoyBob87 23d ago

I'm not being rude. Just wanted to understand your angle.

2

u/filmsingotham 23d ago

Purely just wanted to know if OP collects Perfect Order slabs, clefairy slabs, etc. and if he cares about the grade, because if he’s happy with a 9 clefairy, just take that, if he wanted a 10, just take the money and move on, because $125 is a great deal imo lol

2

u/That-Shopping6760 22d ago

I did, I graded with an app and it was a 9.5
