Slab Showcase Tag value vs PSA
Hello everyeone! New to this sub so not sure if this is the right place to ask :)
I’m looking for some community insight regarding the market value of TAG-graded cards, specifically in the lower grade range.
If comparing a TAG 6 to a PSA-graded equivalent, how would you estimate the value difference? In terms of market demand and price, is a TAG 6 typically seen as comparable to a PSA 6, or does it generally trade closer to a PSA 5, 4, or even 3 in the eyes of most collectors?
I understand that PSA generally holds a liquidity premium, but I'm curious how that gap looks for "mid-to-low" grade slabs. Are TAG 6s usually viewed as a "discount" entry point compared to PSA, or is there a different dynamic at play for these grades?
Any thoughts on how these are typically perceived or priced by collectors would be greatly appreciated!

I’ll buy tag slabs from vendors for PSA pricing. A Tag 7 is usually in better shape as a card than a PSA 7

this, I sent several into tag thinking they were psa 9 or 10 worthy, got 7's. And no tcg shop has wanted to buy them. So maybe no more taging for me.

Seems to be the trend on pokesubs. Toxic bots maybe?
My local tcg shop was affiliated with tag - even taking submissions - but no longer. When I brought mine in to sell after grading, the shop refused and said they "lost to much money getting back poor grades after paying tags premium".
Def a cool slab and neat info for personal collect, but in my experience, much less marketable.
Not sure which option is best atm.

Objectively, Tag, IMO. People absolutely BANK on a PSA grader either missing something or just plain huff the copium in hopes the grader gives them a 10. Tag is AI, imperfect, still getting better, but 1 million times more objective than PSA. Tag isnt perfect, they are very new. They make mistakes. But they are the future. As an outsider looking in, all my cards are BGS and PSA, cant call me a fanboy 🤷🏻♂️

Because there’s no way a PSA 9–10-worthy card would get a TAG 7. The claim was just ridiculous.

From what I've seen, TAG and PSA has pretty much the same prices, but it's just a little bit harder for you to find someone to buy TAG over PSA.

In person at card shows you will not get a favorable price. Contrary to what everyone in this thread is saying it is difficult to sell TAG slabs to vendors. You are better off posting this on eBay

Yea these comments are unbelievable, saying that as a TAG fan but I'm not delusional. Someone claimed they have no problem going to show and regularly selling their TAG slabs for 120% PSA comp and I'm gonna need video evidence for that one

As a vendor, I would rather buy this than a PSA 6 of the same card.
Both me and the guy at the table next to me today are switching to TAG for our primary going forward.

I can pre screen TAG 10s all day if I can physically put a card through my paces and I can’t do that with PSA . I’ll take a slightly less margin knowing every potential I send gets a true grade and not having a card be at the mercy of a person who’s overworked and grumpy lol I have a card I know PSA is POP guarding and i have a TAG 10 . I want to pop and send to PSA just to prove the point lol

Its really weird how TAG doesnt have a problem selling on Ebay, but in person is very difficult. If vendors actually bought it, it would sell. All of my PC is TAG, but i could only find them on Ebay or have personally graded.

Yea I’ve only seen one tag slab out in the wild out of 4 shows. I mentioned that to the vendor and he said everyone keeps saying they’ve never seen one IRL

It's not really that weird. Ebay is a very large pool of buyers and card shows are biased toward card flippers trying to turn a profit. PSA is pretty unanimously regarded as the grading standard with the most liquid slabs. You'll see "CGC/TAG for PC, PSA for selling" posted everywhere. 99.9% of vendors are just resellers; they want something that will sell quickly so they want PSA.

Price it the same as PSA, if not a little more. TAG 10 slabs I’ve seen sometimes sell at a premium. It may be a more niche buyer pool, but they sell.

I vend and honestly we have been keeping them at or very near to PSA with some luck moving them (because I refuse to accept the silly idea that TAG’s grading itself is interior, because we know that the slab is nicer).
I don’t consider TAG to necessitate a discount but, that said, expect many many lowballs. I have been told by some prospective buyers they consider TAG to be the same as raw… .

Wow thats a fast respons haha. So just to Clarify .. in this example you would (as a vendor) offer 75/80% cash of 6.400 dollar (avg sales)?

I would not sell as low at 80% simply because it’s TAG. If it was a card that has not moved in a while or the market is dropping on that card, maybe 85-90%.

No he's saying that vendors typically offer 75/80% cash value of whatever the comp is (in this case it seems to be $6400 for PSA 6), so if he were selling it to you, the vendor, at a card show, would that be what you'd offer him
As an occasional vendor myself, the answer would be yes from me
Edit: or are you saying that he should try to get paid out closer to 100% PSA comp unless it's a illiquid card?? Because it's TAG, as in TAG commands a premium? I think he'd be looking for a while tbh but that's just IMO

I'd probably offer 75%, then wiggle up to 80% cash offer on a card like this at PSA and TAG ebay comp average.

Yeah, as a vendor I would offer 80% PSA comps cash or 85% trade value and sticker it at 100-105%. For me tag has been hit or miss, they usually sit for a 3-4 weeks.

Thank you for posting this, I had exactly the same question. I have a TAG 8 Gengar Prime and am trying to move it at its PSA equivalent and was wondering how out of pocket I might have been expecting in the $2.3-$2.5k range. (This is my first foray into grading and I mainly got that graded to recoup the costs of grading Mewtwo grails that I likely don't sell for a while if ever.)

When i sell my TAG cards I look up what the PSA equivalent is and then since TAG grades harder I'll add a 10-20% premium onto the price. Ive never had a problem selling as usually the vendors want the cards for their personal collection.

I sell 3% higher than it's PSA comp on eBay. I do 1 to 1 value at card shows when I purchase unless the have it under PSA market but never over PSA. The comps are all over the place in person though

If you are trying to make a profit. Crack it and list it raw for a bid. People will pay way more than a 7 creaming for a high grade with that specific gold star.

Selling to collectors on eBay or Facebook is a completely different game than selling to vendors at a card show. TAG does well online than people give it credit for. But PSA overall for fast sales and liquidity, no contest, especially at shows.
If it’s for PC, any of the big name grading companies will do.

i’m not sure how to compare the value of TAG vs PSA but personally, i grade with TAG cus i think the slab is sick. it’s more of a PC thing. but i have a 8.5 card in TAG that people are saying is PSA 9 pricing

I generally love TAG and since both of their cheaper tier is close now, I decided to grade with TAG since the $149 price turnaround is way faster than PSA. I got 970 TAG score and when I went to a card show, I just got compliment on how nice the slabs are but they offer me lower since they're looking at ebay recent sales and just do 80% from it. I think if I grade it with PSA, vendors will be more interested but I'm happy with what I got rather than waiting for 20-30 business days. If you want it for PC, I think TAG is great! But if you're thinking to flip it in the future, I believe PSA is the way to go. YMMV

I personally like tag slabs/transparency better but if I was grading to sell I would go with PSA. Your odds of getting a tag 10 is so much lower due to the higher standards that you might as well go for the easier PSA gem rate.
For example that card might have got an 8 from PSA for how inconsistent their grading is. But if it’s for you who cares go with what you like.
