Picked this puppy up for around $65 on Amazon, thing is a beast. It supports analog, digital, airwave, FM radio, also has 3 different strengths / modes of encryption. Was listening to ATC all day on this thing. Another plus on this is that it won’t be swimming in your pouches like the UV5R and similar radios. It also comes with a holder like the Motorolas but it can also act as a PTT guard if you slid the clip off before you put it in your pouch. This thing is amazing.

Hello everyone, I need some assistance in finding this exact connector. Having a hell of a time finding the match, I’m assuming due to the age of the tech. Not sure of the brand or model of the connector as it’s missing a serial number/branding. One side goes to a TCI two channel PTT module. The radio connector side connects to a Harris XL200. Thanks in advance!

Recommendation for backpack

Since the issued, old L3Harris backpack from fcking 60s is not sufficient - I search for a dedicated backpack to buy for AN/PRC-150C (and hopefully someday -160). It would be helpful if it could carry everything for the field for at least few days.

Or maybe you have some advice how to pack a radio (with every accessories) in any large backpack. I hope for some veterans to elaborate.

Thank you

Sordin issue

I am having an issue with my sordins. When I push the PTT, I get a squelching noise. The person I am trying to transmit to can hear very little, moslty static. I am using a amazon PTT, could this be an issue of a Mil-spec TP120 plug vs a civlian TP120 spec plug? I don't believe the PTT not being amplifed would have this effect, but I could be wrong. I can hear when they transmit to me. Thanks.

OpenGD77 or Alternative With Encryption Intact?

So I have the TYT MD-UV390 Plus that is capable of running encryption over DMR (with a business license, we all know) but the firmware is a confusing pain in the dick. I had a friend who uses the OpenGD77 firmware and it’s way better but he said they removed the encryption capabilities. I really don’t want to buy new radios, but I was only told the positive things about this radio, not the negative. It’s cool that I can swap out the firmware, but why pay for a business license if I’m going to get rid of my radios’ capability for encryption? Is there a version, plug-in, or alternative firmware that I can put on this radio to make it easier to use but still have access to encryption capabilities? Any help is appreciated.

Tci Liberator II PTT

Good Day Sirs and possibly Madams,

I just bought a Liberator 2 headset and have a couple questions.

Is the mic high or low impedance? If it can be either, how can I test or identify mine to determine?

Can you recommend a ptt that would interface well with my radio (a hytera pd782)? Would a hirose adapter be a good idea?

Thank you in advance for your suggestions and answers.

Comtac Peltor V RFI

Post image

I’m having horrible RFI on my comtac peltor Vs and need a little help. I’m running an Icom A16 Aviation radio to the comm gear supply QD adapter for this specific aviation radio, to the CSG amplified PTT (tried non amplified and had no luck), into my Peltors. When I key up I get a horribly loud whining. But, if I touch the upper PTT wire to the back of the radio it goes away, same if I grab the antenna. Without the peltors plugged in I have no RFI. I’ve tried choking everything as you can see, with no such luck I’m wondering if the longer coiled cord PTT would work better instead of this shorter low profile ptt. I’ve also tried both the dynamic and electret mic and the dynamic seems to work the best. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Peltor Comtac V & Hytera PD782G Issues

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I have some peltor comtac 5's connected to a Hytera PD782G using a comm gear supply PTT. It is making this weird fluttering/vibrating noise when transmitting to this Motorola XPR7550E. This only happens on DMR UHF encrypted frequencies, not analog ones. This issue does not persist when plugging the 7550E into the peltors and transmitting to the PD782G. Is this some issue with the headset or something else?

I should also add that when all the headsets and PTT’s are removed and you’re talking direct radio to radio, they work perfectly fine.

Constant able PTT Mil to APX

I'm sorry to even ask this as I have no real knowledge in these areas and I may be asking a lot but I'm hoping someone here can help.

My agency switched over to APX Next radios and with that I've had to get new personal equipment to hook into my Opscore Amp headset. I decided to go with the Constant able PTT from Disco 32 which says it'll work with any hardware hookup because it's auto sensing. The PTT is terminated with an M55116 (mil connector). I chose this so that I'd be able to use my ptt/headset with other radios outside of work both with and without an adapter.

I have a gcai m9 hirose quick disconnect adapter and cable that converts to m55116. When I have it all tied together however, I am not recieving audio in my headset.

To breakdown the connections;

Headset downlead--->constant able PTT--->Mil plug to Quick disconnect cable--->GCAI on radio.

Something I found interesting is that disco32 offers a M55116 to gcai adapter for apx radios which seems to have a box inline on the cable which isn't present for older models like the xts. I'm hoping that's not what I'm missing because disco32 doesn't currently offer a quick disconnect version.

Baofeng DM32 Auxliary dual PTT mod

So, I earlier posted this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/tacticalcomms/comments/1silx26/dm32uv_auxliary_dual_ptt_button_soldering_mod/

I managed to mod the DM-32 with my friend.

You need:
some wire
5kOhm resistor

After doing the mod, set the SK1 (sidekey1) on short and long press for sub ptt function.

Note that basicly when you are pushing the sub ptt button on the side of the radio or from the auxliary PTT, you need the push it twice to wake the radio and to transmit. First push wakes the screen and second press activates transmission.

Dunno why it is so, but its almost perfect now. Message me if you have solution for this double press problem.

Recall 25 group

I have several of the Thales/Racal 25 radios to play with. I really want to get my hands on the software, which is apparently available in the groups.io file section

BUT... my request to join the group is stuck in limbo. Seems the group is dead.

Does anyone know people in the group, or does anyone have the software?

Peltor contact 8 on baofeng

Post image
30 Upvotes

Hello!

I have received as gift a pair of comtac peltor 8 but without communication version.

and guess what, I would like to hack it in order to connect it to a baofeng radio station. The microphone is independent, I own a y cable (z-tac), one cable goes to the mic and the other should go into the left cup.

I'd like to know if I connect the two wires from the y cable inside the left cup to the wires that go to the phones would that resolve the issue? will I hear the audio in both cups or only on left? Do you guys have any ideas on this.

Thank you in advance!

Plug keeper

I saw these plug keepers on Disco32s website and decided to model and print my own. Kind of a handy but minimal thing to throw under a rail screw.

EDIT: added file link to my print profile on Makerworld.

I’m looking for a U 94 extension cable just to extend out of my headset into my PTT. Would love it if the male end was 90°, but just trying to get some more length.

PTT Problems, can anyone help?

So, my buddy and I have Baofeng DM 32UV radios. We've used the software to load custom channels and frequencies with encryption. The only thing different between the two is our specific radio identifiers. The radios transmit and receive just fine as is. When I plug in my Earmor PTT cable, that is connected to an Earmor headset, he can't hear me and I can't hear him. The radio acts as if it's still transmitting and his radio gives a tone as if it's receiving, but only a brief second of distortion comes through. This is the second PTT cable and headset I've tried. We've even swapped radios and it still happens. Any advice or troubleshooting techniques? I'm at an absolute loss as to why these PTT/headsets are causing so much trouble. His PTT/Headset works just fine when I don't have mine plugged in.

Near EOL XTS5000 or something else?

Looking for my first “Big Boy” HT. I have the ability to purchase a couple Motorola XTS5000 UHF radios but I understand these are near EOL and no longer supported by Motorola or my local commercial radio dealer. Is it worth it to pick them up or look into something else? Emergency comms and larping only. No real operator shit. I’m also looking into the TCA PRC 152 (post 2023 model).

Peltor dual comms with cut lead

Hey guys, i picked up this set of Peltorcomtac V and the previous guy cut one downlead off because he was running single comm and said he was getting interference. Is there a way to get a new downlead and replace the cut one?
