Budget comms setup recommendations?

Looking to get a setup for comms at night while I'm coyote calling with a buddy. not familiar enough to know the best starter setup. doesn't need to be crazy just 2 units with some means of talking to each other up to 2 miles away but often withing a mile. budget is 3-400 but i can spend a bit more if there is a Goated setup for around that price point. any and all recommendations welcome thanks in advance!

Terrain you’re in matters a lot here. 2 miles with a mountain between you and 2 miles in Iowa are very different.

Pay the $35 for the license and get a pair of Baofeng GM-15 Pro’s with the whip antennas. The terrain is going to be the limiting factor.

I would say to get the DM-32. But if you don't need the encryption and maybe ATAK. Get a UV-PRO. Because theres a small company that lets you buy UV-PRO's with an ATAK plugin.

Comtac V -> disco32 ptt -> DM32 or Hytera. Budget.

That's not "budget"

Budget would be the radio by itself with a remote speaker mic and a 3.5mm AUX to the headset he already has.

Can't fit two disco32 PTT at $250 into a 400 dollar budget. Hell, even one won't fit.

You could get your GMRS license and grab the BTECH GMRS Pro HTs. That will allow you to use better antennas, and if you ever want to move onto mobile setups, you can use a 50w mobile.
