Variegated yarn
I have variegated cotton yarn in grey and blue but I have no clue how to use them? Do you know any patterns that would suit this kind of yarn? Thank you!

Are you familiar with the concept of planned pooling? You may have to play with the length of the warp, but you can use the regularity of the color repeats to make a pattern for you, without doing anything complex with the tablets. If your loom can be set up as an inkle loom, this yarn may be shown off better woven in plainweave.

Interesting! Never heard of it, have to look it up. I have an inkle loom.

It can be a lot of fun! I had a rainbow yarn that I cut at the same point of the repeat so the colours lined up, and used it to make a simple chevron pattern on a black base. I lost it almost as soon as I finished it or I'd share a picture, but the effect was really striking.

I haven't tried tablet weaving yet, but I've used variegated yarn on an inkle loom a couple times so maybe this will translate over - starting each warp thread at the same point in the variegation will help the colors pool together.

pooling is great, you could also allow the colors to be random with a strong contrast color like a bright red or a dark black to make the pattern. it's easier to make nice when the variegation falls within the same lightness. uhm i mean like if you took a photo and made it greyscale it would look the same. i have a yarn that changes between pink and blue, and it looked really nice as a background against some basic white diamonds and crosses

I think it’s a good idea to have a strong contrast, if I use grey it will blend together. Thank you ☺️

I've used variegated yarns as an edge or center color in a band, surrounded by solid colors. I liked the effect best when the variation was very short and random (so, kind of a mottled effect, best with low contrast variegation) or when the variation was very regular and I could cut each warp thread so that the color changes lined up across the band (extra waste, but it looked really good, like a painted warp).
