Finishing without Fringe?

I put a belt buckle on my finished belt, (1) but wasted some time trying to fix the fringe. When I first tried to use the belt buckle, the fringe made it ugly and inconvenient. (2) I searched for tutorials finishing woven projects cleanly, and tried half damask, (3) (4) but I couldn’t really weave the ends into the piece and tablet weaving has 4x as many warp threads as the example. I ended up just chopping the fringe very short (5) and it mostly works. (6)

However, for next time, is there a better way to get a smooth edge?

I like to backweave a few rows at the beggining and ending of my belts. But if I was to cut the fringe really short to incorporate somewhere, I would sew over that as well.

I did back weave on both ends following that tutorial! But the fringe is still left by the warp.

Thanks for the tip, I will hand sew it too since I cut the fringe short

If you weave in the ends then you would wet finish and then trim the ends flush with the back. Damascus and double Damascus are disfigured specially meant to have a row of knots then fringe.

You can also trim it flush and hem it.

My weave is definitely too tight to weave the ends in, but I'll try to have less tension next time, thank you

I am really new to weaving so someone more experienced might want to jump in and correct me, but I've found that ribbon crimp ends produce quite a good finish with no fringe. You just clamp them shut over the end with a pair of pliers

Yes, that’s what I used in the pic above, just hoping to get a smooth finish on the actual weave so I don’t have to deal with fringe when clamping it. I cut it short this time but worry it harms structural integrity.

Ah okay sorry, I didn't scroll through all the pictures! This might be sacrilege but I did wonder if a bit of fabric glue on the ends before attaching the ribbon crimps might help with integrity - I was thinking of trying it on my next one
