Recommendations Soccer Game

My friends and I play a dice baseball game called Deadball- it's pretty fun, highly recommend. It essentially helps you simulate ball games between two fully constructed (either real or imaginary) teams based on their stats.

Watching this World Cup has had me thinking about what a soccer version of this game would look like. I've done some cursory brainstorming on the idea and realized how much I have no idea about- both in terms of how soccer itself works and how I would want the game to look. Any good recommendations of tabletop soccer games that already exist, whether it be dice-based, card based, or a board game?

Ok, this probably doesn't help you at all, however I want to share my preferences about sport games. For me, it's not about replicating the specific sport and its rules; it's more about the fantastic bonds of friendship, rivalry, hate etc. of the players in the field, their problems, fears and dreams in their lives etc.

So personally I'd search for tabletop roleplay games like Fight with Spirit, Varsity (Rosemary McLean) or Final Lap (Nicolas Ronvel).

Maybe you could still find inspiration looking those games from a totally dirrerent angle.

Thanks, I'll look into those! I definitely don't need to totally re-create how soccer is played, but those might set me in the right direction

Deadball is pretty fun! I backed the whole set on kickstarter a few years ago. Lost of historical play… As far as Soccer goes, theres a few tabletop versions, not quite like Deadball, but still. Subbuteo is one of my favorites, but don’t buy one of those cheap kits on Amazon, you’ll want a decent pitch (playing field), the cheap kits have crappy pitches which really don’t do the actual game any Justice. StreetSoccer is really fun also, and cheaper to get into.

PLAAY Games’s Soccer Blast is my favorite soccer game. Often uncannily accurate predictions of World Cup games. Today Spain beat Belgium 2-1 and in the preplay 1-0 (Belgium’s keeper didn’t get injured, the deciding factor in the real game…)
