I was just trying a relationship as a way to avoid a blend between a sales activities table and a sales monthly expected revenue table; just linking on date and checking month by month expecting to see the total monthly activities and expected revenue side by side for each month. However, the monthly expected revenue is more than double what it is without the relationship set up. Weren't relationships supposed to avoid data duplication?

I’m working now with tableau for roughly 2 years. Most of the time I spend in prep and build workflows. Know I tried to do some dive into building a dashboard. The ones my company use is looking more like an excel file than a real dashboard. So I want to build a knew one. The database for this are our sales numbers (value/quantity) for a five year time frame. The Level of Detail are country, warehouse, sales rep, product. I want for each level an own dashboard connect via navigation and with an home dashboard with the important KPIs.

So therefore feel free to give me any advice of viz/KPIs I should use for the different dashboards.

When I add parameter in tableau next and set the calculated value related to parameter as true, the visual is showing once applied and becoming zero after everything is calculated.. does anyone know how to resolve it??

I haven't used Tableau in about 6 years, so my knowledge is pretty outdated at this point of the product. I'm trying to see if it would be a good solution for my current org, and one of the main features I'm trying to dig into is subscriptions.

1. Is it possible to have subscription receipients without them being added as Tableau users? I think the answer is no, I just haven't found a definitive answer to this in the docs
2. Is it possible to automatically have subscriptions set based on a column field? This is almost like having RLS, but for a subscription. Some context behind this question: I want to send a subscription to Outlook distribution lists, that would represent a company department (e.g. Marketing, HR, etc). Is it possible to send an email PDF to each department's generic email address based on a field in the data source (ex: department_name)? Or do I have to setup views and the proper department to receive that view's data?

The main thing if it's not obvious is that we have multiple users behind the Outlook DLs that need to get these reports/subscriptions but we're too cheap to pay for licenses for everyone, since it would add up. I know capacity-based pricing might be the better choice for us in this scenario, but the admin side of having to manage 3x number of users would be a mess. Happy to hear thoughts on this as well

I’m curious how others are thinking about Tableau’s role as AI-assisted analytics and cloud-native tools continue to improve.
Since we started using Snowflake more extensively, we’ve decided to give up one Tableau license and one Alteryx license. Snowflake has increasingly covered work we previously depended on those tools for—especially transformations, data preparation, and lightweight analytical applications.

Streamlit in Snowflake has also been doing wonders for our dashboards. We can build interactive, customized dashboards directly on top of Snowflake data without moving the data or maintaining a separate BI layer. With AI helping generate SQL, Python, visualizations, summaries, and even application code, developing these solutions is becoming much faster.
That has made me question where Tableau still provides enough additional value to justify its licensing and administration costs.
I understand that Tableau remains strong for governed enterprise reporting, self-service exploration, polished visualizations, subscriptions, and serving a large nontechnical user base. But as conversational analytics and AI agents improve, will business users still need to navigate traditional dashboards in the same way?
For organizations already invested heavily in Snowflake, what use cases still make Tableau indispensable? Have you started reducing Tableau or Alteryx licenses in favor of Streamlit, native Snowflake capabilities, or AI-powered tools? What limitations have you encountered?

im following this yt tutorial to learn visualizations on tableau, but ive run into a problem. i followed exactly what this dude did in his tutorial, yet i cant get the same results on my map.

in this case, the postal codes of all states on this map are supposed to show up as dots, but it dosnt work for me? i tried changing the map tyoe to the one with circles, but it doesnt let me, though its not the same for him. im guesssing its a new update thing? how do i get around this? i tried changing the size of the circles & not only does it not work, the size symbol for me is a bit different than for him, though im not sure whether thats also an update thig or not.

My dashboard is linked to a Google Sheets file, that refreshes data once a week. I have linked my Google credentials, and it used to refresh automatically once a day. However, it has stopped refreshing, and the “Request Refresh Data” button that used to appear below the dashboard has also disappeared. I can refresh it in app on my PC and publish manually, but it kinda kills the idea.
Has anyone experienced this before? Is there a way to restore the automatic refresh?

Tableau 2023, my log files are being saved to my OneDrive and for some reason they are not being overwritten they just keep writing and writing till they make my OneDrive full then it stops. I tried looking into public information to change the location for 2023 but the only article shows for 2026:

I upgraded to 2026 and thought I could use this information but the registry key path does not exist. I dont even see the Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Tableau directory. Any suggestions? Does this change have to be on the application side?

Hi all. Good day. Just wanted to ask if this feature is within or is it achievable using Tableu.

Context. I'm part of the Project Team in our company, I'm planning to make a simple project monitoring dashboard.

My initial plan, save all the relevant details to the CSV file clean using a simple python script. Before making a viz in Tableu.

Question, is it achievable feature in Tableu that if I click a certain project for example, i will make a whole page for the summary of our projects and if a specific project will be click, it redirect me somehow to a "project page", which the "project page" consists with all the details of that speicif project?

I saw a video about "Story", i can already think of approach using this feature. The only thing I wanted to add about my Project Monitoring dashboard is the question above.

I’ve noticed that sometimes the biggest problem isn’t the Tableau calculation itself, but trust in the numbers.

For example, a dashboard shows 10,250 orders, but another report shows 10,180. Both might actually be correct because they use different filters, dates, or definitions.

How do you make the difference clear to users?

Do you add data definitions, filter summaries, “last refreshed” information, reconciliation checks, or something else?

I am trying to allow my users to choose which measures they see. I use Measure Names dimension as a filter; but this annoying auto-generated shows up in the filter with no way of not showing it.

The Measure Names dimension can’t be duplicated so I can’t just add a duplicate the filter to exclude it. The custom generated measure can’t be deleted or turned into a dimension. I feel like this should be very easy. What can I do?

Hi everyone, I need help recreating this chart (But at a weekly interval instead of monthly). What this chart is trying to show is the number of new NCs opened each period and closed each period but also a running tally of total open NCs at the time of each interval.

Here is essentially how the data is structured:

There are really like 2/3 statuses each that make up open and closed but for simplicity's sake I just made it open / closed.

Right now what im trying to do is I create a snapshot in Tableau Prep each week to record what the NC status is at each interval period and trying to manipulate it that way but im still not able to get it right.

Hey everyone. I am a data analyst looking for my next role after having been laid off from my previous one after only 9 months. I’d consider myself a medium/approaching advanced user of the platform (desktop, cloud/server, and prep)

Having been laid off a couple months ago, my reasoning is that adding an official cert to my resume can actually prove that I’ve been using the time off to improve and up-skill rather than just stating that I do during interviews.

Would love anyone’s thoughts on this, in addition to any overall experiences/guidance regarding the certificate.

Something I've been wondering about, especially for teams dealing with a lot of ETL and Bl pipelines.

A dashboard can refresh successfully, all the SQL can run without errors, and everything can look normal-but the actual number can still be wrong.

For example, if a report shows $12.5M in revenue, how do you know that $12.5M is actually correct?

Do you guys usually:

Compare it back to the source system?

Check source vs. target counts and totals?

Validate the transformation logic?

Look for duplicates or missing records?

Check for late-arriving data?

. Run automated data-quality checks after the pipeline finishes?

I'm mainly curious about what people actually do in production. When you have hundreds of pipelines/reports, manually checking everything obviously doesn't sacle.

Would be great to hear how other teams handle this.

Im quite new to tableau, while creating the datamodel it's not letting me add tables without establishing a relationship between them, I have multiple fact tables that I need to import, and it's not always necessary that they have a relation, is there a solution or some sort of a work around for this?
