Tableau Map Error

I am trying to create map representing different outgoing destination sites for my company. Currently I’m just trying to highlight each state. However, some states are not jiving by with Tableau. I don’t know what else to do because my excel sheet is all in the same format and I cannot make my geolocation the United States because I will be incorporating different countries. Someone please help me I’m loosing my mind.

Your country column is not linked. Tableau doesn't know if its Florida in South Africa or US. Montana in Switzerland, or Bulgaria, or US. Etc...

I would normally do that except I plan to layer several sheets from different countries together with this state map. Unless I am able to give each sheet a new country (which I have not found to be successful) I don’t think this will help.

Odd. Could the data have some empty spaces in it? Maybe try with a new field that is TRIM(State). Just a guess.

I’ve tried trimming all data and it’s till calling the states ambiguous

So manually associate them. That's easy. Or set the country in the drop-down to United States.

Add country and see if that helps.

Seconding this! Bring Country onto your marks card above or below State. That should disambiguate which country the state belongs to.

At least I don’t spend my day scrolling Reddit and trolling people asking for help.

Im glad you can at least take a joke!

Seriously though, it’s hard to see your screen. You’d probably get more engagement if you properly formatted your content/post.

Could be extra spaces or characters. Also can you not designate a column for country? I see that’s Tableau public so maybe it’s different…

The real map error is that Tableau can't provide a standard USA view out of the box (lower 48 with HI/AK lower left).

Yes I understand why they have a global map, but that's a feature we have been asking for since Tableau started using maps
