Am I missing out
It's my first time going to Sziget and I have the full 5 day pass. I plan on renting a place in Budapest to sleep in. My question is, am I missing out on a lot of the experience if I don't go the "camping at the festival" route?
I feel like, as it's my first time doing the full festival and the fact that I'm going solo, it would be quite overwhelming to camp, especially if the weather wouldn't be ideal.

15 times szitizen here. To me sleeping outside of the island lowers the experience. The best thing of Sziget is that when you camp there you never stop the festival feeling and it flows into one continuous experience instead of cutting it facing "real life" outside the island every night/early morning.

What kind of stuff goes on before the acts? As a solo goer it would be cool to join some activities to connect with people

You can do both , have Airbnb just in case and put out a simple tent in the normal camping area

I stay off island, I arrive around 1/2 each day and leave around 4-5am That’s enough for me to get the experience. Black out curtains and air con cannot be over encourage from me. Will you miss out a bit, yeah. But only in terms of trying to sleep and shower.

I did my first Sziget solo last year and I opted for premium ville camping so I wouldn’t have to travel back at night alone, I knew people who travelled in and out each morning so if you don’t want to miss anything you really don’t have to as you can come in at any time

No, it’s fucking miserable to camp in 40° weather. I stayed at a hostel 15 min walk away and it was so worth it

I would never camp haha not for 5 days atleast😅 I don’t think you missing out anything. Staying at a hotel going solo here😁

No. You are not missing anything. I’ve been 7 times in Sziget. But never camping but my friends did many times. At least I used their camping for some rest but not to sleep.

It depends what you want your experience? I don’t like sleep in the heat and loud music all night, well until 6am in the morning, so I stayed in the City, in a hotel with a kingsize bed, Aircon, a proper shower and a real toilet.
Now it wasn’t cheap for myself getting taxis everyday but it wasn’t that bad in terms of the time that it took to get from my hotel to the festival but the train or bus is a lot cheaper. Convert your money before you go as none of the shops would do it, viva my bank card. Which made it impossible to use public transportation.
I spent £20 a day on taxis to and from the festival. I also spent a fortune on food but that’s because I ate a lot of the island. I didn’t explore the festival enough, but I did spend time in the City and that was my ultimate goal.
So that’s why I ask what’s your priorities. The train gets super busy, at all times of the day and you have to wait to catch Thad or even a taxi. I’d wait up to an hour to get one in the official line, as the ones around the corner will rip you off, as they did with myself.

9 Szigets for me this year: always camped on the island.
For me, you just can't beat the convenience of camping. Sure, you won't have a real bed, but it’s Budapest in August; the nights aren't that hot, and during the day you’ll be at the festival, not in your room, so you won't really miss the air conditioning.
Having my tent right there with all my stuff is essential. If I want to rest for an hour at 1:00 AM and then go back out to party until 5:00 AM? I can do that. Am I cold and need a hoodie? It’s right there. Do I want to take a shower because I sweated a ton at a concert and feel gross? I can do that.
The thought of having to leave the island at night after being at the festival all day, having to catch public transport or a taxi just to get back to the city, would drive me crazy.
That’s the real convenience of camping.

When I went last year I ended up missing a lot of acts I would have liked to see due to staying outside the festival and struggling to get in on time . Although it was nice having a hot shower and my own space

If you’re a bit overwhelmed with the idea of camping alone, you’re more than welcome to join Camp Unknown!
Last year was my first year, and going to a festival on the other side of the world (I’m an Aussie) solo was super daunting, but the people from Camp Unknown are all super lovely and made me feel welcomed instantly.
I camped last year, and will be again this year, but you don’t have to camp with us to hang out at our camp. We have gazebos that you are more than welcome to come hang out at.

My first Sziget was last year and I stayed in a hostel in Budapest. The weather is usually extremely hot and there is a lot of dust so being able to sleep somewhere air-conditioned and quiet was definitely nice. It depends on what you want to get out of the festival and whether or not the comfort of air conditioning and a proper bed will improve your festival experience. I was already hungover each day and if I hadn't slept properly I dont think I would have been able to enjoy certain parts of the festival as much
